Great Buy and absolutely happy after 7 years!
UPDATE: Purchased in 2009This thing is still going strong after 7 years of consistent use. I now have a Xbox-One, and a 65 inch 4K TV setup, and it more than keeps up with my new hardware. Although the iPod input is mostly obsolete, I use the AUX input with a Bluetooth adapter to stream my music and make the most of the 5.1 surround sound.I purchased this Item refurbished, and I am happy to say that I was very satisfied. To me, it seems completely new and runs great. No missing components or paperwork. The system plays great, easy setup, and quick start up.The speakers are good, and I was surprised by the power of the sub. You can play music and movies from your iPod, along with viewing photos. They only thing is that you can’t watch the movie through the HDMI output, only AV. Don’t forget to set your iPod’s movie setting output to TV, otherwise you might not be able to see the movie from your iPod on your TV.You don’t have many options to manually control all aspects of sounds, but it does have good presets. The wire length for the speakers are long enough to set up the surround speakers in a small room, but bigger rooms might require some additional length by splicing. I wasn’t able to fully plug in the FM wire to its hub, so I used a little bit of electrical tape to keep it in place.Overall, if your looking for something good to play your music and movies and don’t want to worry about fine-tuning everything, then this is a great buy. I am very happy with the purchase and I really enjoy my media now.

    Warning before you purchase
I purchased my Sc-PT960 on 11/17/08. I was looking for a mid range theatre system to compliment my Panasonic TV which I like.January 2010 – The unit won’t power up. Although the unit is barely out of warranty on time the power supply crapped out. I doubt we had more than 20hrs use. Here’s the thing. Try to navigate the Customer Support system or talk to the staff at Panasonic. I really felt I had accomplished something when I eventually got to a human being! They direct the consumer to a local independent repair facilty that charges close to $200 up front. By the time you can get anything accomplished you might as well of saved your time and effort and just purchased something new.I wasted the time and I’m buying something new but it won’t be from Panasonic!!! Their customer satisfaction system isn’t! The process is very unhelpful and unfriendly. I felt conned by the time I got thru the process and oh btw “we’re changing the product so everything will be new in March, can you contact us then… we do have some great blue ray deals for $900…” I wanted my $363 unit repaired or replaced and my choices ended up to be to pay a minimum of $200 for the repair estimate or a $900 Blue Ray!!!Not only will I hold myself back from waiting 3 months to make the purchase but it sure as heck won’t be from Panasonic. If the power supply craps out after only 20 hours use and Panasonic can’t do anything about other than make the consumer jump thru hoops or get upsold then I’ll look for a company that stands behind their product.

The system ate my 5 DvDs
I bought the Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System in Jan 2009. The wires for the surround speakers were too short. The woofer speaker is not finished on the left side. The instructions for operating the system were vague and complicated at the same time. The loading cassette which is built in the system and hold one to five dvds or cd all open at the same time. If you’re not using this set in a well-lit place you can have loading problems. For instance if you need to exchange a dvd in tray # 3, the cassette opens trays # 3, 4, 5, making the trays not needed for changing a single dvd or cd exchange, open and close needlessly. This will surely wear this mechanism out sooner. After just two months of regular use the cassette changer jammed and capturing 5 dvds, three of them rentals. I went through the manual to try to clear it with no luck. I then called the 800 # listed on the manual and spoke to and operator from the Philippines who courteously walked me the through clearing procedure again with no luck. He then directed me to the nearest authorized Panasonic repair shop about 8 miles from my home. The technician at the shop immediately recognized the problem as the exchange system being out of alignment. He admitted repairing many of the same models with same problem. I was grateful that he not only retrieved the 5 dvds but also was able to repair the alignment. I was also grateful that Panasonic stood by their product. The Panasonic was still under warranty so the repairs were free. Something Samsung was unable to do when their home theater carasoule system would lockup when playing certain dvds, or simply wouldn’t even load them. I was so frustrated with the Samsung I put it out with the trash. While Panasonic has always enjoyed a great reputation, I gave this system two stars because if it was just one or two players that had this problem, I would’ve said it was just my bad luck. However, for so many players to have this same “out of alignment” problem, this has to be a manufactures defect. In addition the skimping on the length of the surround speaker wires, the unfinished woofer speaker and the complicated operating instructions for the remote control. Last but not unimportant, the redundant procedure for loading and exchanging dvds & cds is a sure way to wear out the system’s mechanics. Sadly this set was obviously contracted out to the lowest manufacture bidder. When this system was first marketed, it sold for about $400, I paid $240 with the shipping included. I figured the dealers were making room for the new BlueRay sets that were coming out and were selling them at cost. But knowing that this system may well eat my dvds (5 at a time) is a little troubling. Other than that the system plays the dvds well and the sound is okay, I don’t play cds on it. You know the old saying “Buyer Beware”
