Installing this device I had to call my HVAC team to get Paul Harvey’s “the Rest of the Story”
OK, first off, God himself knows if Amazon will cancel this review. it will be helpful… so there you go. LOL. 2nd… it is the beginning of August and hot in Central FL. My old thermostat… a programmable LCD one finally bit the dust. I had ordered the Kono ahead of time and had it at the ready. When you install this, just don’t think you can wire this up correctly and be off and running. I did all the stuff the instructions said… wired it for Heat Pump with aux. heating. That was excellent. It took me a while, but yes.. it was fine. I turned it on and it was heating my house when it was set to cool. Not what I want in the middle of August. So, when you have a heat pump there are two different types of valves inside of it that govern whether it heats or cools. The B valve and the O valve. Some thermostats have 2 separate wires… if you have an “O” wire, it goes to the O part of the wiring harness. Same for a “B” valve. The Kono has a O/B wire. So, whichever you have, you have to put it on that pin of the wiring harness. You have to go inside the settings (non-easy internet setup settings) in order to set the thermostat for B valve or O valve. I called my HVAC team and they came out…and we could not find anywhere in the instructions find where this setting is. We called the Tech Support line and got a great guy. He started out being slightly jerky, but once my HVAC guys told him where the bear crapped in the woods, he was very helpful. He told us how to enter the secret mode to get to 1-99 different settings. he told us the number…and we dialed it up, went in..and switched it to the correct valve setting… in my case “O”. The device went into a 5 minute countdown to reset… and bingo… I am typing as my AC is cooling my house back down. I think that manual needs to mentions things like this… but it doesn’t. So, if you understand what I typed here in this review… then you can increase the percentage chance that you will have a successful install. You will have to call the tech support to have them walk you through this step. Of course, I paid my HVAC team but… small price for getting a great thermostat up and running. The old one had 4 time zones…and was a pain to deal with. this one has an app… and I can easily set it or dial it up. I know that people probably want to get a cavity in their mouth filled before they install thermostats… I am the same way…. but just remember, there are settings that you don’t know about… and now you know not to fall for the O or B valve issue. Somebody said that the thermostat does not give you much info. Ok, you turn it to heat, or you turn it to cool…dial in the temp… and what more is there… do you want to read a copy of the U.S. Constitution on the display? LOL. At any rate, hope this helps. if you find that it was helpful, leave a comment. Good luck !!!

Does not fit all and poor tech support.
Purchased this to replace my Honeywell digital thermostat. Called Tech Support for help with connecting without the common wire. Sent them several pictures of everything they requested. Tech Support âScoldedâ me for saying my yellow wire is connected to Y and Blue wire is connected to B. He said they are just alphabetical designations and have no relationship to wire color. I said fine and told him how they are connected. He said Hire a AC tech to hook it up or send it back. So I sent it back.

Returned
Amazon warehouse shipped a wrong model. That was the fault of Amazon. The sample I received was powered and used for a few minutes. The display information is very limited, constructed with cheap plastic.

Excellent thermostat
Easy to install, Has an adapter module if no C wire is present. Easy to program. It has a large easy to read display. Very nice.

Do not buy
I bought this thermostat based on the features and the price. Set up was easy…. three days after everything was going well we had a cold front come in. It’s early April so did not expect to turn heat on, but when I did the heat setting would not work so I tried to figure out by looking online. NO luck, but thankfully the sun come out and we warmed up. Well since I live in Texas one day we need heat the next we need the A/C. My Konos will not go below 75 degrees so again I look online and NO luck on support. I may be a novice at setting things up properly, BUT I always buy techinical items knowing the company will be there to walk me through any issues. LUX had NOOOOOO technical service for anyone who has a job and pays taxes. M-F 8-5 is not service. I can not leave work to go home and walk through this all. So if you are technically inclined and do not need suppport but it, BUT if you think you may need support by the Ecobee!!!
