1 Year in, Detailed review: LOVE it!
I depend on honest detailed reviews when searching. I’ll try to pay it forward here. Bias alert: I have found the Kasa products easy to use and dependable. I have Kasa smart plugs and light bulbs that I bought previously. Made in Vietnam, not China, was a thing for me.First, know what you need and how the device works. I didn’t want to pay a monthly fee for stored video or access, this fits the bill (but cloud storage is available if you wish, I don’t use). Know that you need a wired/powered doorbell location, or add a plug-in power supply (what I did, 18V 500mA Doorbell Adapter, 10$). It needs a micro SD memory card to store footage in the doorbell. Device connects to your wireless Wi-Fi network.Review: I have 2, one for each door. I bought one to try out and went about 3 months of flawless performance and got the 2nd. I’m in over a year now on both. This device at this price has met my need and satisfaction perfectly. My Mother-in-law has a Ring bell, I see no meaningful difference except Ring requires minimum annual subscription to access data, a few more notification options, and an initial higher cost.-The VID QUALITY is great, can be set to higher or lower resolution depending on how much you want to stretch card memory for recording. On your Kasa app (have iPhone) you can zoom in and pan the picture both live and on recordings. Night vision is nice as well. You can set to full 24 hour record, or just movement incidents. I use 24 hr. record on my 256 MB SD card (max size). I get about 3 months of video (mid resolution) before it fills and starts over recording in a loop. Movement incidents are highlighted on the timeline, and files of Motion events are date stamped. App has photo capture and export features. Phone alert settings for motion detection are nice, but are according to how your phone settings deliver alerts.-MOTION DETECTION/SENSITIVITY takes a little tweaking to adjust settings to balance your desire to be bugged every second, or only if the world is ending. There is a setting where you can create an “activity zone” frame to focus on movement areas and ignore parts of the picture. You can set and size adjust area very specifically. I have a tree in one picture frame, but off to the side, I set the zone to ignore that area. Really limits false alarms on windy nights. Primary trigger is light sensitivity, bright headlights can be alerted as motion at night. It happens very rarely for my home. It also has a setting trigger to “sound detection”, but I have that disabled, didn’t see the need.-COMMUNICATION Audio through the device has a slight delay, (1/2-1 second, maybe) but sound is acceptable both in and out. Just remember it’s not an intercom. I have never had a connection problem and in the last year the only time I’ve been disconnected were power outages, no way around that. They include an outlet plug-in doorbell sounder with a few choices for unique chime. I set each to different sound and pick a door close wall to determine front or back.I have no complaints, knew what I was buying, the purpose, and limitations. Outstanding for the price. The only drawback I see is if you want high security, the card is in the doorbell. Rip it off that wall, and there goes your evidence, unless you have added the cloud storage service. Depending on your handiness I suppose you could make the Bell more secure. Hope this helps you make a great choice.

Very affordable, reliable, works in Frigate
I had been using a Blink battery-powered doorbell camera that, quite frankly, wasn’t very reliable. It struggled to maintain a connection to its sync module and my wifi, despite good signal strength. It also had no good way to be managed in my Frigate NVR so I finally decided to pitch it and try this one.The only downside the Kasa camera has compared to the Blink is that it requires the use of a plug-in chime. But when you realize that this allows it to just use the 24VAC transformer as power without mucking around with batteries, it’s clearly the better solution. The picture quality is great and setup was easy with the app.

    Great stand alone doorbell
I’m a big fan of Kasa smart home items. The build is well done and looks great. The wideness of the camera allows for a very big viewing area. I didn’t have any lag with my wifi. I got this to be able to have 24/7 recording without a subscription. Just put a sd card in and you are good to go!Installing was simple with their guide and their step by step instructions on the app and paper copy.My only issue with this doorbell is it does not work well with my google nest speaker and google home app. So I had to return it. If you don’t use google home this is a great stand alone doorbell. I think it might work better with amazon echos but I recommended looking up videos before buying.

Best door camera on the market!
Very happy with this purchase as I already own two more Kasa cameras. It looks great at night and the motion sensor captures on time. Play back works well as does the app and NO subscription!

Wouldn’t stay connected to it’s phone app
The instructions on to install this video doorbell, attach it to your 2.4G (which it requires, not 5G) Wi-Fi network, link it to the phone (Android in my case) app, and make the Bluetooth connection to the chime aren’t very clear. Especially the need to tightly time what you do when relative to the various colours of blinking lights in the front of it before they move on to the next step. However after several attempts and master ‘paper clip’ resets, I initially got it working at my desk. Later however when I actually installed it on the outside of the house, wired (including bypassing the house’s original chime), it had lost connectivity to the app. So I loosed it from the house (the reset is on the back) and did it all over again (out in the cold) and it worked again. A couple of hours later – gone again. So did the reset all over again and nothing. I then did a bit more in-depth troubleshooting – my router could see it and ping it, I could ping it from my phone too (with excellent numbers), so I don’t think it was dropping off due to Wi-Fi issues. E.g. distance. It just seemed like the app had ‘lost’ it as an available device.I had installed a SD card in it for local storage, so I pulled it back out, checked it in my PC, and there were tons of exactly 60-second videos on it. Which was a bit inconclusive. Also, interestingly enough, through all of this the actual ringing of its remote chime when the button was pushed worked. So I contacted Kasa’s (actually TP-Link) tech support via a chat window, and not too surprisingly they initially wanted to talk me through all the reset stuff I had already done three times. I told them about my being able to ping it all the way from my phone and they then concluded the camera itself was defective. They said they would send me instructions on how to return it to them for a warranty replacement. Which seemed a bit strange to me as this looked more like an app issue instead of a camera hardware issue.I later received an email from them asking me to send them proof of purchase, country where I am (Canada), and photo of the on the box serial number, which I did.Later more I received another email from them, contradicting the prior one, saying because it was less than 30-days old, rather than they warranty replacing it, I should return it to the seller (Amazon) for a refund. Huh?? They only warranty it if it’s MORE THAN 30-days old?? Whaaaat? So I did just that and that ended of my experience with Kasa. Back to shopping for a video doorbell.

I purchased the Kasa KD110 Video Doorbell spring of 2023. It was a great purchase. I live in Southern Ontario, so the weather ranges from summer hot to winter cold. This device has worked great throughout it all. I had to replace the old typical door bell in our house. I pulled it all out. Ran a new power supply and hooked it all up. The door bell and the chime paired up immediately. Setup door bell using the Kasa app, got it connected to my wifi and was watching everything in front of my house in minutes. Installed a micro sd card and can review everything the camera sees. The image is decent for both daytime and nighttime viewing. The motion detection works well as does the person detection. Have had no issues with connecting to the camera from where ever I may be. The two-way audio works well enough.Would be great if they would add the ability to view the camera from a web browser on my computer.

I was happy to see the angle wedge was part of the package when opening up the box as this is needed for my house. The camera quality is really good, night-vision not great (probably because of the wall beside it) but turning that feature off has provided adequate nighttime views.Paired with the Kasa light switches and the camera motion detection turns on my outside lights during sunset to sunrise through the app. Passing headlights set off the motion detection sometimes but that’s minor.
