Pretty good. Software is lacking
Kasa’s energy monitoring is more detailed but kasa’s doesn’t work on Bluetooth+wifi like this one. I can reliably operate this with my Apple Watch app with my iPhone as a hotspot and no hub. I know it’s a pretty odd use case but this excels in this combo situation. In the more normal setting, at home with hub, mistouch prevention does not work for me. Hoping eventually their firmware will actually make this work. And the alert feature for this+automations doesn’t work reliably either. Basically useless. Otherwise I love my other switchbot devices (humidity+temp sensor, door sensor and bot switches) where notifications work flawlessly

Good Features
Easy to setup with good integrations. Also worked for detecting when my washer and dryer finish

Great Value
Easy to setup and easy to control on app. Just wish it had matter support

Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings only!
At this time, these are listed at $43 with a 40% off discount. Theyâve been discounted a notable amount since I received them. I mixed up logos and thought the Samsung SmartThings logo was the open source Matter logo, which is why I picked them up. To my surprise, that was not the case. As such, these arenât compatible with my home. However, I still set them up just to test them out. Well, they work. They do exactly what they are meant to. I connected them to Alexa and can confirm that they were added with ease. You do need to install a SwitchBot app to use them, which is annoying since some brands are directly compatible, but itâs a minor inconvenience. At ~$6.50 each, itâs not a bad buy. At full price, they are ~$11 each, which is pretty steep for the product. Knocking one star off due to the price and/or the requirement of another app.Â

Another great device from YoLink!
As with most YoLink products, this one carries on the tradition of a no nonsense blend of form and function. I should note too that after sales support from Yolink has been stellar. While there are lots of players in this space, YoLink is my first choice for automation devices. In a word, they’ve earned my trust! The device itself is small and was perfect for my application. I plan on using the energy monitoring feature in the future. It would be Awesome if they would make the energy monitoring feature available to existing/legacy mini plugs. Might be something that could be added in a BIOS update?

OK plug, but misleading advertising
Plugs are responsive, toggling quickly when using the app. I’m using WiFi, not Bluetooth, but the WiFi connection has been stable for the past 5 days, showing no disconnects in my Unifi logs. However, it seems like the Switchbot app requires cloud connectivity, taking a moment to “connect” to the plug when you select it in the app.I find the advertising slightly misleading. Under “From the brand” on the Amazon listing for this plug, it shows a logo for the Apple “Home” app, suggesting that these support HomeKit, but they do NOT; they only support Siri Shortcuts. It also shows the logo for Matter, but these are NOT Matter enabled. When you scroll down further you can see the actual technologies this plug supports.I have it hooked up to Home Assistant using the official Switchbot integration, which requires cloud connectivity instead of a local connection which is a bummer as I try to keep everything local. It also doesn’t expose the wattage for power monitoring purposes… only voltage and amperage, from which you can calculate watts, but the calculated value doesn’t match what is shown in the Switchbot app. Which one is correct? Unclear. Would have liked to see better support for Home Assistant, especially now that Switchbot is part of the “Works with Home Assistant” alliance. These plugs don’t seem as reliable as my Meross plugs… firmware updates took a long time, and I am currently trying to update one right now and it’s stuck at 97%. Taking a chance, killing the app, and reopening it and it seems like the upgrade went through OK.Overall, these work OK but there are better options out there that provide fully local control and for less money.
