No issues so far
Hooking this up to the power was pretty straightforward and there was enough room in my existing box to not need a new one. Getting this together with my Google Home system was a little more involved, but I eventually got their 3rd party app working correctly and doing what I needed it to do. It works great in my office since that room has a non-functional switch (electrician said it wasn’t hooked up to anything) and rather than run a line from the switch to an outlet, I just set this up. My old faceplates matched the shape, too, so no need to go down to the hardware store for a new one. It has been running well for quite some time and integrates well into setup.

Yet Another App
The install was easy, but app setup was more painful. I am annoyed I needed to install another app to get it working. Getting to work through Google home was not straight forward. But after getting past initial setup, it has worked flawlessly.

Built in Smart Wall Outlet
There’s a few things about this plug to be aware of. First of all, this requires some basic electrical knowledge since you need to wire it directly into your house wiring. Second is that you need to have a 2.4 ghz network up, which was a concern as we had recently upgraded to 5 ghz wifi. At least this did not seem to work on our 5 ghz. Fortunately, we still had a legacy 2.4 ghz access point. It seems like if you are building or replacing a permanent outlet or fixture, it should be a capable of modern standards. After install and setup it seems to work with Alexa just like any other smart switch.

Finally, a high-quality WiFi smart outlet from a company that will still be around “tomorrow”!
I needed a WiFi connected outlet for my kitchen remodel because I wanted to be able to power down countertop appliances at night for piece of mind, but I didn’t want to leave this duty to a “random” unknown brand of power outlet peddling a lower-priced version with unknown certifications and quality.I have several of these outlets setup with a particular home automation script that has several conditions that allow the outlets to have power for convenience and safety. First of all, if a smoke detector detects smoke, all the outlets perform the “power cut” automation…that’s 24/7/365. The second thing is that if it’s after 9pm, and the kitchen motion detector hasn’t detected motion for 2 hours, the outlets shut off until 6am. The motion detector will not re-power the outlets directly on motion (in the middle of the night) but if you need a countertop appliance at 3am, just ask Alexa to “turn on the kitchen power” and it re-powers the outlets (until 9pm the next day) for your mid-night air fryer “sesh”! No judgement here…I wanted a quality manufacturer that I can rely on to keep my family safe, and provide decades of service to us! Eaton provides this, I use a TON a Eaton products in my home, they have a wide variety of home automation products with innovative features that I can use to bring safety and convenience to my family!

Look at other nicer offerings…
I’m sorry to come down hard on this smart outlet, but let me share my beefs – before that, in all fairness, I have to say the outlet does work as a smart device. My first issue is – Yet ANOTHER app is required on my poor phone to setup and maintain this outlet. It is NOT compatible with Tuya Smart Life, as the majority of smart outlets are.Related, but a second issue is the draconian requirements for establishing a “BrightLayer Home” account. Not only is an EMAIL address verification required before you can start, but a mil-spec password and WAY TOO MUCH required personal information – which you cannot bypass. I’m not comfortable with this, and it has nothing to do with operating a simple on/off outlet.Third, after all that effort, the setup process kept failing (see photo #2). I persevered, and finally got it installed… and you probably guessed it: Software update needed. This failed 3 times before finally successfully updating. A minor annoyance – the LED activity is a complex dance of various colors in solid or blinking (red, blue, white, pink, light blue) and not one really matches the setup descriptions very well.Actually the physical wiring is a breeze – although the 3-way switch function (unused) is a bit of a mystery to me (a very experienced electrical wiring professional). It is unclear if a traveler into the switch would shut the switch off, or if a traveler out of the switch is provided to a three-way circuit, allowing for a smart light switch function…? No clear description of operation is provided for this feature. Finally – this switch is way too expensive for the trouble it gave me. You can get far easier to use for much cheaper.

Making a smart home!
This outlet has been working great for months! It makes it so convenient to turn off lights or fans when I am out of the house and worry that I forgot to do it. It pairs up perfectly with my wifi and my phone app. It looks just like a regular outlet and doesn’t stand out at all. I am very happy with the quality of this product and plan to get more of these when I am ready to install them.
