Don’t recommend for passive PoE clients.
My main buying point was V-lan and the Active PoE.V-lan was what I need. Dns encryption is nice. Vpn client was a surprise. Main settings are available connecting directly with a web browser. The app is very limited.Active PoE only work with other Active PoE. I should have bought passive PoE router. It always send power. I just have to be careful if 12v is going out, only connect a 12v PoE device. It would have been nice if a could manually control the power output by inserting the need information. Then the ethernet port goes from Active to Passive PoE. Example device need 12v then just set to 12v, but noooooo! It did not work for me, does not mean it wont work for you needs. Just make sure the client it also Active PoE. Just because it was released this year does not mean it use all the latest technologies. More than 3/4 of products are passive PoE.This product was a fail for me on the PoE abilities. All this could be fix if i could set 12v on the selected port. I hope for a firmware solution to this problem. However, it unlikely to happen.

Good headend for complete ASUS AiMesh
Iâve had this router for over a year now, and it was a hassle to get everything working properly, but overall itâs a great value and the learning will assist you long term in networking. Firstly, the setup is straight forward – plug and play. The issue lies in the added features, which didnât all work at first, but now seem to be working seamlessly after a couple of updates. Secondly, donât buy this router if you need a fancy solution to a self-inflicted wound. This works as a commercial grade router for SOHO applications, with consumer grade options. Do not expect this router to function as an all in one networking solution (e.g., firewall, IDS, IPS, etc). ASUS did partner with TrendMicro to offer a free packaged threat monitoring sensor, which is such a value. I set up a honeypot on my network, and the sensor on the router works very well. Lastly, USE THE AIMESH – donât try and create a robust network full of ACLs and specialized routing behavior – This is not a Ubiquiti product, but if youâre setup is small in scale, this works better than youâd expect, and with PoE+ ports.

Decent router but really just a standard router to control a mesh WiFi
I returned this because it didn’t fit my needs. Was looking for a replacement for an end of life Cisco router. Was expecting something more robust with similar features and this didnt’ fit my needs.

Don’t let the size fool you! I wish these were around in my WAN/LAN installs. It does it all. FAST.
I was in IT for over 30 years. How times and size of devices have changed, Looking for a SUPER Router. Don’t be fooled by the price! This thing fringes on Enterprise Cisco routers.

Not enough RAM?
This unit with two ASUS PoE expert WiFi EBA63 access points needs to be rebooted constantly, I think because ram utilization (even off clean boot) is nearly 80%. I had about 35 WiFi objects connected between the two and they donât intelligently move to the better access point like this router and access point setup promises, Iâd steer clear of this and just go with ubiquiti access points and a different router.
