Versatile thumb drive
The versatility allows this to be used by multiple systems. The drive is ExFat, but you can easily reformat into whatever you need for your uses. The read and write speed are a bit slower than they claim (about 900 mb/s versus their claimed 1000 mb/s) but is still quite fast and for large file size transfers it’s much faster than my USB 3.0 drive.The case is a nice thickness of metal that makes it feel sturdy and you can feel the weight in your hand. Since it’s solid state and well protected exterior I expect this thing to last a long time, so for the kind of high price (normal price $65, but I got it on sale for $50) I’m very pleased with the quality, speed, and versatility (USB-A and USB-C) that allows you to use it on a phone, laptop, console, etc.

It is as shown, looks well-made, and measures fast in read and write (see below stats for nerds). It came formatted (windows recognized it as quickly as it was plugged in). I like the metal construction and the dual (usb/apple) plugs, I guess I am OK with the bigger-than-usual size, I don’t like that the plugs are open/unprotected, I expect the USB-A to collect dust, lint, junk, etc, while I carry this flashdrive in my handbag/backpack.If the price is right, go for it, it is as described. Works well, but make sure it does not overheat
Okay performance in read and write. It works well to back up and carry content around. Could not use it continuously hooked up to computer due to overheating. Overheating and performance is the reason for dropping two stars.

Feels durable, USB-A and USB-C has been super helpful
The drive feels well-built and has excellent functionality. Its USB-A and USB-C connections make it very convenient for traveling and working on multiple systems. Fortunately or unfortunately, it also doubles as a fidget device, as leaving it on my desk causes me to pick it up and keep rotating the spinning connector part in my hand.

Good R/W speeds and versatility
This review is for the ORICO 512GB External USB SSD. The drive sports both USB-C and USB-A connectors at opposite ends with a cover that can rotate to cover one of the connectors or 90 degrees to allow both connectors to be used simultaneously (which I did not test). Included in the box is a lanyard that you can attach to the USB drive.It came formatted as ExFAT and I was able to write to it and read from it in Windows and MacOS out of the box without issue. Windows reported 476GB free and MacOS reported 512GB free, the difference, I suppose, being in how each OS represents space. I reformatted it to APFS without issue.For my speed tests, I plugged it into a USB-C port on the front of my 2024 M4 Mac Mini and used Blackmagic with a 5GB file size. Here are the results:Write = 907.4 MB/sRead = 909.5 MB/sPlugging the USB-A end into a USB-C adapter and using it on the same port yielded similar results. I tested both multiple times and consistently got over 900 MB/s.As the included manual states, it does get warm while in use, with the metal case acting like a heat sink. This was not unexpected and while it did get warm, it wasn’t enough to cause major concern. However, I have a couple fans pointed at my Mac Mini and external drives to be safe.I also tried it with my iPhone 15. It saw the drive and I was able to save files to it with no problems. The only issue was the phone’s case preventing the drive from being plugged in directly. I didn’t have a low profile adapter cable available so I took the case off to test it. Hopefully, I’ll find an adapter that will allow me to use it with the case on.Overall, I like it. The read and write speeds on my Mac were close to the advertised speed. I was a little disappointed by not being able to plug it into my phone directly with the case on but that’s not a major deal for me. The form factor is good and having the USB-A connector in addition to the USB-C connector will be convenient for folks with older computers.

This is a good, fast drive for USB-A and USB-c devices. It works well with both types of inputs on my computers.Unfortunately I could not use it with my iPhone because my phone uses a lightning connection. I tried a USB-c to lightning adapter but the phone will not recognize the device. Nonetheless with both types of USB connections this is a winner.

Die Mini-SSD ist super. Das Gehäuse wird nicht heiÃ. Die 2 verschiedenen USB-Stecker sind sehr vorteilhaft.Mit der Geschwindigkeit bin ich sehr zufrieden. Eine 4,9 GB Videodatei wurde in 17 Sekunden über USB 3.1 geschrieben.
