One of the best CS texts, and I am not an easy critic
See my history of reviews. I have read many CS texts in my life, only some of which I have reviewed here, but basically, I am not impressed by the huge majority of books about technical topics. This is one of the good ones. No nonsense, concise, deep enough. In other words, not a waste of time, again like so many CS texts are.If I had to gripe… the authors begin to trail off at the end of each chapter into less important topics. You can feel the invisible hand of the publisher asking for more content. No author for these publishers escapes this entirely. When you begin to feel like you are reading about a niche topic, abruptly skip to the next chapter- the chapters never recover once they begin to trail off. But this is still only the very end of most of the chapters, there is still 90% gold in this book. This is one of the best books about tech I have ever read. I desperately wish more were like it.

    Thin pages
The content is great, but the pages are so thin! Its hard to read a page when you can see the text on the page right behind it!

The pages in the global print edition are literally transparent. I am not joking. When reading a page, you can not only see the back side, but also the following page. You always see *three* sides of text overlaid together, which makes the book near impossible to read.Take a look at the picture I attached. No joke, you can see three pages of text at the same time.I’m not sure if it’s Pearson (who, by the way, is apparently introducing NFT textbooks–make of this what you will), or the international publisher in Malaysia, but it’s clear they are penny pinching by making the pages as thin as toilet paper.Avoid at all costs. Maybe avoid Pearson as well.

There are many good texts that provide an introduction to computer networking, but this is the one I think is the best. This new edition, with valuable updates and excellent web resources is particularly good.
