Inexpensive Switch with Expensive Quality Performance
First off, I would like to state that I am participating in a program where the cost of the switch was refunded for the ability to review it honestly here on Amazon. The honesty of my review is NOT impacted by receiving this switch for free. Rather an am an Independent IT professional who takes opportunities to review items for the greater good of the IT community.With that said, I purchased this switch and within 3 days it had arrived on my doorstep via Prime shipping. The switch was securely packaged in a standard Amazon box with some standard air bubble/air packs. If I was shipping to a customer, I probably would have added more packing material in, but that is just me. Inside the Amazon box was an Aumox labeled box that contained the switch and standard power cord for it.I was pleasantly surprised to see that this switch is actually a tad smaller than my current Netgear 5-Port (GS105) Gigabit switch. Infact the dimensions are significantly smaller on the Aumox vs Netgear with the dimensions as follows (3.93 x 2.51 x 0.9 in versus 4.02 x 1.06 x 3.9 in) respectively. The Aumox is also noticeably lighter at 0.53lb vs the Netgear at 0.66lb. With that said, you would expect a more cheaper feeling build quality of lesser quality materials than the NetGear. However that isn’t the case. The Aumox switch has a very sturdy and solid feel to it and not some plastic breakable feel. In fact if I were to recommend this switch to some of my customers based on that information alone, I would have no problem recommending AND installing the Aumox switch for clients due to it’s professional and solid build quality.Once the switch was unboxed and plugged in, I disconnected my Netgear GS105 from my office network and installed this Aumox. Keep in mind this isn’t designed to replace a managed switch with VLAN capabilities like I have for my dedicated lab. Rather on my main office desk outside of my office’s lab space, I have had a Netgear gigabit switch for the simple purpose of connecting an HP MFP Laserjet Pro printer, this laptop I’m typing on, my dedicated internet router, and two additional ports for testing IT equipment. So this switch was designed for circumstances like this.What I noticed after installing this switch was that I simply did not have any problems. Immediately everything on the network was connected and talking to each other . I did some initial simple testing of network/internet speeds with Fast.com and Speedtest.net, both of which produced nearly identical results between the Netgear and Aumox. I ran and re-ran these tests with each subsequent test showing no gain (but no loss) in speed over the Netgear switch.As of the writing of this review, I have not disconnected the Aumox switch. It has been performing perfectly and I want to do more long range testing with it to push it to it’s limits. But so far I am very impressed with this switch to the point that I would recommend this for purchased by my clients immediately. I am not sure if Aumox is a startup company or a lesser known well established company. However they have put out a solid piece of networking equipment with this switch. I would love to see them produce some enterprise grade switches that I would love to test to see how they stack up to HP Enterprise and Netgear Enterprise switches.Before I end my review I have only one complaint about this switch. Due to how my desk is setup, I wish the AC plug was in the rear of the switch with the Cat5e RJ45 ports remaining in the front. This is NOT a complaint about the performance or build quality. But more of a personal preference on how my desk is setup. But for the price of the switch, I can happily live with that complaint and I think you could too!

Impressive switch with lots of hidden value
To start, I am an IT Systems Engineer with years of experience in the field. I was looking for a POE Ethernet switch to power a few of my peripherals, namely some POE Cameras, a few APs and a few POE powered Ethernet switches for my home setup.Before I install items on my home network, I usually like to test them to see what their capabilities are and if there are any gotchas. I wanted to throw a whole bunch of various POE powered equipment at it to see how it would handle the load. I had a few Aruba APs, some Timeclocks, an IP phone, a POE powered switch, and a room monitoring device.. all 8 ports loaded up.Not only did this switch power everything up, it didn’t even break a sweat doing so. Barely warm to the touch considering the integrated fan-less power supply. Other top tier switches (Cisco/HP) would either need a fan at this wattage or would need a giant external power adapter. When wall mounting, not having to worry about where to place the huge power adapter is a bonus.Speaking of mounting, you can use the ears that it comes with to mount against a wall or underneath a desk. These ears are not designed for your standard 19” rack. If you would prefer not to use the ears, the bottom of the switch has your standard holes that allow you to slide the switch in (these screws are not included).This switch has some power negotiating going on for the POE powered stuff I plugged in. Normally my Aruba APs would complain if it couldn’t negotiate power through LLDP and reserve a certain wattage (these are class 4 devices). Some of the cheaper POE+ switches can supply the wattage but some of the more advanced endpoint device can’t determine what these switches are capable of. They then default into a lower power consumption mode as a failsafe and disable some features to stay under the power limit. My devices negotiated POE+ successfully with this Aumox 8 port switch and worked at their full capabilities! Very impressive at this price point and physical size.Likes:Integrated power supply in a mini form factor all metal design8 ports of POE+ powerPOE+ Negotiated power (huge plus depending on the device).Dislikes (more like complaints that it’s not perfect):Doesn’t come with rubber feet. Has metal raised circles instead. (slides around my desk easily)Not a smart switch with VLAN capabilities or any interface to log into.Only shows link/activity as a single light per port. I was looking for a switch to power from access points and cameras and came across this Aumox SG518P switch. It seems to be just the right switch for the job.Pros:1. The boot speed is instant. Upon plugging it in, it powers up within 2 seconds. That’d much faster than some other switches I’ve tried in the past.2. It comes with rack mounts!!! The rack mounts attach with 3 included screws on each side. They fit my rack perfecty. Also the screws are easy to screw in/get access to.3. POE Works (most important feature). I was able to test 802.3af as that is what my UniFI AC-Lite and U6-Lite (The WiFi6 model) support– Note, for others that wish to buy this switch, make sure your UniFi APs support 802.3af. The older ones prior to board revision 33 (32 and lower) DO NOT support 802.3af and only support passive 24v POE which this switch does not do. I have a mix of older and newer UniFi APs and only some of them work. The compatible ones indicate 802.3af on the back side of them for eay verification. If you cannot get to them, go to the UniFi Controller, manage the AP, scroll to the bottom and download the JSON file. You will be able to see the board revision in that file for each AP. 33 and higher is compatible.4. Fan noise is there, but it’s pretty quiet. Even under a desk I couldn’t hear it. When it’s mounted in my rack, it’s inaudible due to the fans for the router and server. Noise is not a concern whatsoever.5. Plugging in non-POE equipment did not damage it. Some cheaper switches can, this one does not. Have tried a bunch of different NICs, Xbox, my TV, PC, an Asus NAS and Synology NAS. No issues.Cons:1. Is there a white or silver model to match my UniFi Gear? :D2. Unmanaged, but for a managed switch you would typically pay a lot more. I’m totally fine that this is unmanaged. The VLAN switch does work though in my testing if you need to use VLANs.All in all an awesome switch that doesn’t break the bank! A+++!

I was in search of a source of POE to clean up the installation of a couple of wireless access points in my home network, and also add a few wired ports to my lab setup. This unit fit the bill and provided lots of room for future expansion, for about the same cost as the commodity unmanaged switches I usually use + the POE injectors I would need to go with them.Construction is solid, indicator lights are well placed and easy to see. Fan noise is not at all objectionable for a home office environment (placed on a shelf a few feet from my workspace, it was no more audible than my laptop). Rack mount brackets and a small instruction sheet are included (which was useful in explaining the function of the âVLANâ switch, that wonât be used in my application) – and the short power cord (~18 inches) was appropriate for a structured wiring panel or rack.After a brief bench test in my office, the unit was relocated to my main wiring panel (better mount to be done at a later date) and is working without issue.

Pro’s: simplified my home network system. Con’s: one port dead on arrival. No point in returning it for this. I ordered this unit with more ports then I would expect to use so one port was not a issue.
