Great feel, build quality, and execution
Button presses feel great. Build quality seems top notch, and I’m optimistic that this will hold up longer than my old controller. (I had been using the one from Retro-Bit, but I’ve had two now fail via worn out button membranes.)Battery life is really good. I appreciate the use of type-C for the USB port. It’s nice that the controller can be used over USB, without needing bluetooth (i.e. the USB port can do more than just power).Works great with Linux over bluetooth. Connecting (once paired) is fast and consistent. Battery level is reported, and correctly exposed to applications by my host’s bluetooth stack.My only complaint is that it took *so long* for 8bitdo to get around to an N64 controller! Also, when the metal stick hits the octagonal gate, some of the gate material comes off and collects as dust on the stick. Maybe metal, or some sort of soft-ish silicone coating, would be a better material for the gate?

Exactly what I needed! I have the N64 retro controller but now that Iâm an adult my hands are too big for it. This controller solves that AND gives a modern layout to accomplish the same things. Perfect!

Not even half baked
UPDATE: I was lazy to return this one. I decided to check back in on it. 8bitdo has finally updated all their software for all platforms and issued firmware to make this work with the Switch 2. I was able to plug it into my Macbook Air, install the software and update the firmware. It was easy enough.Then it was just a matter of pairing it Switch 2. That was simple too. It works well. It’s just an adjustment period if you’re used to the original controller. It feels ok in the hand. Like a smaller pro controller with the n64 style stick. The AB buttons are slightly sunken compared to the C buttons. I don’t remember the original stick hurting my thumb as much.Upgraded the score from a 2 star to 4 star. I still think the official controller from nintendo would be better. But this is nice if you want something multiplatform.Original review from launch: Doesn’t connect to Switch 2. No way to update the firmware yet. If you look on their site, no firmware has been issued. I was able to connect it to my Android phone but I don’t have an emulator or roms to test it with. My plan is just to return this and to get the NSO N64 controller from Nintendo.

Useless
Got this to go with the Analogue 3D however it got delayed again. I tried to connect this with the Switch 2 and PC but could not get it to work. I even tried to update the firmware but nothing. Maybe in the future I’ll purchase this again when it gets more support, but as of right now I don’t want to get stuck with a $40 paperweight.

This controller has been in development for over a year. The Switch 2, which is not what this controller is primarily for, came out 1 month ago. Why would this controller be out of the box compatible with a system that JUST CAME OUT!!!! Use your brain for 2 seconds. And it is compatible, but requires a 20 second firmware update which you should do regardless.Knuckle draggers aside, this is a fantastic controller. It feels incredible. The rumble feature is actually amazing. Best rumble I’ve ever felt. The quality of everything is top notch. Its a wonderful controller and highly compatible. Im using it on my PC with no issue. Buy it, ignore the people who should have their reviewing rights revoked.

This controller is great.EVERY comment that is negative and giving it less than 5 stars is saying “it doesnt connect to the switch 2 as advertised”Well.. if one were smart enough to go to 8bitduos website they would see that it requires a firmware update for this. and that you have to use the 8bitduo ultimate software V2 NOT V1 to do this. which also happens to be found under the 8bitduo 64 controller page.I have 4 of these controllers and every single one of them connects to the switch 2 with zero issues first try. AFTER updating the firmware.

Great controller now that the firmware update to use it on switch 2 is released.
I bought this controller the day it came out, it works great on switch 1, and feels way higher quality than a controller I bought for 4$ less. Its was a 4/5 controller, but now that 8bitdo released the 1.02 update on their easy to use firmware installer, its is a 5/5 controller for the switch 2 functionality.

Almost great
Well at least it shipped before the analogue n64. I bought a discounted one with a dented box. The product was sealed and well protected, though it took a bit of effort to unbox.The controller itself is excellent, I upgraded the firmware, 8bitdo sort out your flashing utils you have 3 now, and used it wired to my misterfpga to play majoras mask. It feels like a modern interpretation of what was an iconic but frankly wackadoodle design by big N. Overall love the design and once mapped correctly it played flawlessly.My only ask would be for some more colorful button options. The white on white is very hard to read. It would have been wonderful if we could have gotten some period correct colored text face buttons.

Ottimo come tutti i prodotti 8bitdo, ho già altri prodotti in casa ho scelto di prendere anche questo per la mia switch 2 sia per usarlo con i titoli Nintendo 64 sia per Mario Kart world, avendo i tasti A e B grandi, piatti e a pollice è il top credo uno dei più comodi per giocare online a MKW consiglio a tutti. Non ha vibrazione quindi la batteria durerà tantissimo. Appena arrivato ricordate di aggiornare il software da pc o smartphone con software dedicato 8bitdo per poter funzionare su switch 2

Der Controller ist einfach genial. Die Verarbeitung ist enorm hochwertig für den Preis und er liegt sehr gut in der Hand. Ich war erst skeptisch, ob sich der A und B Knopf gut bedienen lassen so tief liegend, aber sie liegen dort genau richtig und lassen sich gut erreichen und das bei eher kleinen Händen. Ich nutze den Controller primär am PC und hier funktioniert er tadellos, man muss nur mit den Modi schauen, hier werden beide in Windows erkannt, aber nur unter einem Modi funktioniert der Controller entsprechend mit âShip of harkinianâ, bei mir der Modus S. In der Beschreibung stehen die Möglichen Geräte, mit denen er verbunden werden kann und hier ist ausschlieÃlich die Switch 1 angegeben und nicht Switch 2, daher sollte man die negativen Bewertungen dafür nicht beachten. Man kann den Controller auch über den PC und mit entsprechender Software von 8bitdo updaten, sofern der Controller per usb kabel verbunden wird und wer weiÃ, vielleicht wird ja irgendwann die Switch 2 kompatibel sein. Ich finde, man kann hier bedenkenlos zuschlagen, wenn man den Controller für Emulatoren verwenden möchte, ich bin begeistert vom Produkt.

Great option for Switch 2, Mac/PC or actual hardware. Setting up the controller was easy, and updating the firmware was simple. Playing Goldeneye feels just at I remember it, the stick feel is precise and not overly sensitive like some of the other Amazon options. Quality is solid and ergonomics feel familiar and comfortable for long gaming sessions. If the Analogue 3D is ever released this will be a great option. But for now Iâm loving the Switch online classics in 4K with this controller.
