    Very nice buy!
Very nice computer. Especially for the price! Only disappointment was the product description stated that the keyboard was backlight. Only key that is illuminated is the ENTER key. If there is some command to backlight the keyboard I haven’t found it. Still, I am well satisfied.

    So far so good!
This has been a solid workhorse so far. It handles basic tasks with ease, mainly Microsoft Office use and internet browsing. Can’t beat the value for the price!

    Great budget laptop, deceptive marketing.
I bought the previous model of this laptop the F510UA which was a disaster from the get go, the 512 is an improvement in pretty much every regard including build quality, in terms of specifications you get what you paid for, this is not a gaming laptop it’s designed for someone who works and might play a light game like Fortnite or League of Legends on the side, I personally use it to play some of my lighter games like Crusader Kings and Stellaris which it runs without issue. The backlit keys which is another improvement over its predecessor are a god send for a late night productivity session where I don’t want to turn on my power hungry desktop PC. the screen quality is also excellent and crisp, I would recommend this to any young professional or student who doesn’t need a laptop as their primary daily terminal but something to fill in the gaps between a work station and a home PC.However, I do have some Caveats and this is where deceptive marketing comes in to play, the battery life for this product isn’t listed anywhere it’s about 4 hours under a light load if you play games on it expect that to be realistically cut in half, on Asus’ website it says it has a 3x battery life, which means nothing, three times what? it’s supposedly upgradable to 16gb of ram, I’m not entirely sure how you would attain this, there’s 4gb soldered directly onto the motherboard which cannot be removed and a slot containing a 4GB module which can be swapped for higher capacity but I’m not entirely sure where you find a single ram module that is 12GB so the 16gb is a theoretical capacity, the actual tech spec page even says it goes up to 12GB, so once again deceptive marketing, this takes me to the hard drive the laptop has a slot for an additional 2.5 inch HDD/SSD drive along with the NVME SSD already installed, however in order to install an additional drive a SSD Caddy kit is needed this of course is not stated on the product page of the item, at the time of writing this the caddy and connector which are separate purchases cost a total of 40 US dollars to obtain from Asus directly, there’re cheaper kits on Amazon which is the route I took after shopping around, but do not be fooled into thinking you can plop a drive in with relative ease.Overall I don’t regret this purchase like I did its predecessor, unlike that one this is a very good budget laptop, but Asus needs to cut down on its marketing fluff and put realistic information in easily viewed areas it’s very anti consumer to bury them in a tech spec page that by design you’re expecting the potential purchaser not to read and even some of the information provided in the tech spec page is misleading.

Zooming Out of the Dark Ages
Nothing can make you feel like a relic from the past faster than trying to learn to use these sleek new laptops after having been a “desktop model only” nerd for too many years. My fingers are too clunky, the keys are definitely not where I expected to find them, and the backspace key is my new best friend. Actually, I never thought I’d cross over to a laptop at all because they were too compressed and I am way to old to want to tackle muscle memory lessons on where to find the keys.I had it in my head that I could breeze through it. After all it was just a laptop computer and I was computer savvy. My brother was an IT guy for many years of his life, so I figured most of my issues could be resolved with a simple “call Bob”. R-I-G-H-T!!! Not only had I not upgraded my old computer for many years, I hadn’t upgraded the operating system and … OMG this laptop came with Windows 10. After about my 5th call to my brother in less than an hour, he very carefully suggested that I might want to purchase a manual on how to use Windows 10. I think think he also said “for dummies”, but it was kind of under his breath and garbled. So, I bought the one for dummies, and another one for senior dummies. Good thing he lives too far away for me to drive down to see him … LOLI love this laptop. As far I know it works great … my fingers not so much but they’re slowly learning how to touch type again. This one has a nice large screen and the keyboard is very comfortable. I’ve always used a mouse, so the finger pad is more annoying than hard to use. I know I could attach a mouse, but I’m determined to learn how to use it as it is.My old computer system was clunky and took up the better part of a desk surface. That required me to sit in the back bedroom when I used it and I always felt shut away from everything. This laptop fits great into a roll-top desk I have in my living room and I’m learning. As you have guessed, this is less of a review of the laptop computer and more about the shortcomings of its clunky old user. To be absolutely honest, the laptop is great … it’s the user that needs and upgrade.

    Scam , Horrible and Slow
The computer runs horribly slow. My old laptop from 2014 works better than this one. It’s a scam, just like the people who leave reviews. On top of that, once you’re done using the laptop, you only have 10 GB of space left. Really? The extra storage device they give you doesn’t work. I tried to contact the buyer, but they haven’t responded for several days, and there’s no way to return it. Total scam.

I was looking around for a laptop, including many more expensive options, before I settled with this one.The laptop is very fast with the NVMe M.2 SSD, with a disk benchmark, I was able to reach 1.6 GB (that is gigabytes, not gigabits) read speeds per second, and 900 MB/s write speeds per second.I got this on sale, and for under $600, a Ryzen 5 quad core, 8GB DDR4 ram and 256GB SSD, it is excellent value. Not to mention the great feel of the chiclet backlit keyboard. The performance of the Vega 8 integrated graphics, is better performance than any Intel integrated graphics would be. The fans is a little audible when running HD video or more intensive tasks, although still very quiet. The battery life is average, although it can be a little bit above average if you set your settings to battery saver. Still, it should last a few hours at the least. Just a quick note, there is 6GB usable RAM rather than 8GB, as 2GB is permanently allocated to the AMD Ryzen Vega 8 GPU. Also, when first turning on the computer, there is noticable backlight bleed on the bottom two corners of the screen, while the screen is on though, the screen has good picture. The pictures for this laptop does not do it justice, I was pleasantly surprised when I received the laptop – the laptop looks better in person than it is advertised! All in all, this is the best laptop one can get for the price, hands down. Definitely recommend it for anybody who is looking for a laptop that won’t put a dent in their wallet. Good job Asus.
