The Perfect Phone (with Case!) Controller
(Review from a hardcore console gamer.)I’ve tried a few mobile game controllers in the past, and they’ve all had the same problem: they couldn’t fit my big phone with a thick case on it. And I don’t have the patience to remove my phone case every time I want to game. So I gave up on the idea altogether.Fast forward a few years, and I really want to take advantage of Xbox Cloud Gaming on my (now even bigger!) phone, so I start researching mobile game controllers again, and come across this beauty. Here are my thoughts after a month of surprisingly heavy usage.Pros:- Fits my huge Galaxy S23 Ultra with a thick case (the Grip from dbrand) PERFECTLY! ð¤- Small form factor, yet still manages to feel comfortable in your hands (mine are slightly larger-than-average), even during long play sessions; it feels like a slightly smaller Nintendo Switch.- Satisfyingly “clicky” buttons, analog sticks, triggers, and bumpers. The analog sticks are slightly longer than the Switch’s Joy-Cons, making these feel better.- Haptic feedback feels really cool (if your game supports it)!- The controller is very light, but doesn’t feel cheap.- The app (which isn’t required to use the controller) is actually very sleek and handy if you give it a chance. Lots of customization options, including the ability to map touchscreen controls (if you subscribe) for games that don’t officially support a controller.- It barely uses your phone’s battery. I’ve literally played for HOURS without seeing any hits to my battery.- Perfect for Game Pass streaming or Xbox remote play. I’ve actually started using the services even MORE thanks to this controller.- You can charge your phone through an easy-to-access USB-C port on the bottom right of the controller.Cons:- I haven’t found any games that support haptic feedback yet, although the majority of my gaming is on Game Pass.- The cooler app features (like the touchscreen control mapping) are locked behind a paywall.- Free users have to dismiss an offer to subscribe to the app EVERY TIME you open it. Mostly just annoying, but still.- If my phone were just half an inch longer, I’d have difficulty fitting it into the controller’s brackets. If my next phone is bigger, this may no longer work with it.- This is nit-picking, but I feel like the Menu and Options are buttons are oddly placed, like they’re practically on the corners of the controller. However, I quickly got used to their positions after a few minutes of play.- Nit-picking again, but a basic case (sold separately) should be included with the controller since it’s so thin and I’d be afraid to throw it in a backpack without any kind of protection. This is THE BEST mobile game controller I’ve used, and it’s really led me to take advantage of and enjoy great gaming sessions from literally anywhere! Highly recommended. ð

Great product but you may need to purchase additional items to get a better experience.
I rarely write reviews, but the performance of this product truly surprised me, so I wanted to share my thoughts.First, this controller completely meets my expectations. It works well for playing various games on a mobile phone, is lightweight, and provides a comfortable grip. However, the buttons require more force to press compared to a standard controller. This is particularly noticeable when using it with a PC, as I usually rest the controller on my lap while playing. Due to its slim design, pressing the buttons in this position can be slightly inconvenient. That said, this issue doesnât occur when playing on a mobile phone, as the controller is supported by your hands, which provides better leverage. This controller is lightweight and portable, and I carried it with me every day during the first week after purchasing it to play during my free time. However, despite being lightweight, its relatively large size makes it less convenient to carry around without a bag. Even if you use a bag, youâll need to be cautious to avoid damaging it.The biggest downside is the additional costs. Besides the nearly $100 price tag for the controller, you may need to pay an annual subscription fee of $40 to unlock extra features, such as connecting it to devices like an iPad or PC. Additionally, to play most PC games, youâll need a GeForce Now subscription, which costs $20 per month. Altogether, this adds up to around $160 for the full experience. If youâre only planning to play mobile games, you can save the extra $60, but youâll still face limitations. In comparison, traditional controllers cost between $60 and $150, offering better value and more functionality.Another drawback is the lack of vibration feedback, which diminishes the overall gaming experience. Overall, if there werenât additional costs, I would be more inclined to recommend this controller. Therefore, before purchasing, make sure to clarify your needs. If your primary focus is on PC gaming, I recommend choosing a traditional controller. Itâs more durable, doesnât require additional subscriptions, and offers a better overall experience.

Fantastic
I like the feel of the controller, it works great with dreamcast emulator games. there is a lag when playing titan quest from Google play games though.Otherwise great product.

I recently purchased the Backbone One Mobile Gaming Controller, and it has completely transformed my mobile gaming experience. The setup was straightforwardâjust plug in my iPhone, and I was ready to play. The controller feels very comfortable in the hand, and the tactile feedback from the analog sticks is excellentâresponsive and satisfying to use, much like a traditional console controller.Pros:Seamless Integration: Works flawlessly with my iPhone, providing a console-like gaming experience.Ergonomic Design: Comfortable to hold during extended gaming sessions.Tactile Analog Sticks: Great feedback that enhances control and precision.Low Latency: Responsive controls with minimal input delay.Pass-Through Charging: Allows me to charge my phone while gaming, ensuring uninterrupted play.Backbone App Access: Provides a hub for all my games, game recommendations, and social features.Cons:Price Point: Slightly on the expensive side, but the quality justifies the cost.Final Thoughts:If you’re a mobile gamer looking to elevate your gameplay, the Backbone One is an excellent investment. It offers a seamless and immersive gaming experience that enhances every game I play.

The Backbone 2nd gen is an amazing add on to your mobile gaming experience.Yes, it works with bigger phones such as iPhone 15 plus and pro max (and any usb-c versions of iPhone), even with a case on (although mine is not bulky as an otterbox). There are adapters included in the box for bigger phones or if you have a phone case. Just had to search for a quick YouTube video to learn how to switch to the bigger version. No, subscription is not required to play games. However, you may need it to customize buttons to onscreen bubbles like PUBG.Or you can do it like me and pair Backbone + Xbox Cloud gaming, and be amazed at the infinity of games from Indies to AAA that you can play on the go. Just plug and play.Buttons, triggers and joysticks are very responsive and after 4 months of daily playing cod mobile, no drifting. The buttons are a little clicky but not loud like a blue mx mechanical keyboard – didnât bother me at all.I have regular/medium size hands and they are perfect. Saw the comments on âbeing too smallâ, but imo, if this feels small in your hands, itâs likely that a 6â screen phone also feels âtoo smallâ.It does add a little weight to the phone, so better to play while resting the arms on a table. Longer gaming sessions made my arms tingle a bit from holding up the assembled controller + phone.Yes, bought it on deal, at $100. Great investment to play while the wife watches TV, no more fighting over the remote lol
