A smart thermostat connects to your home’s wireless network and can be controlled remotely from other connected devices. This means that you can adjust the settings using your smart phone, an iPad, a voice assistant, or computer. As a wheelchair user it gives me the ability to control the thermostat and spares our walls damage from reckless driving.
WiFi thermostats offer benefits for those with visual impairments as well. Many thermostats, like ecobee, have large digital displays that are designed to be seen from a distance, which is nice for anyone with low vision. You can even connect the thermostat to a voice assistant like Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant, and adjust the settings by voice so you don’t have to be able to see at all!
When paired with a voice assistant, smart thermostats are super helpful for just about everyone. As someone that struggles to regulate their body temperature and lacks the ability to get out of bed in the middle of the night, I really love this feature. There have been many nights that I have awoke feeling cold or hot and it has been so nice to just tell Alexa to adjust the thermostat accordingly.
SAVE MONEY: Homeowners save up to 23% annually on heating or cooling costs, plus ecobee pays for itself in under 2 years (compared to a hold of 72 degrees).
ROOM SENSORS: Place them in the rooms that matter the most and have the temperature balanced throughout your whole home. Measuring both occupancy and temperature, sensors signal your ecobee Smart Thermostat to automatically switch to the right mode for comfort when you’re home or for savings when you’re not. One Room Sensor included, 2-pack sold separately
EASILY INSTALL YOURSELF: It only takes about 30 minutes, thanks to an easy to follow installation guide and an in-app step-by-step walkthrough. Everything you need comes in the box, including a Power Extender Kit for homes with no common wire (C-wire). Compatibility- Gas, oil, electric, dual fuel, Conventional (2H/2C), Heat Pump (4H/2C), Humidifier, Dehumidifier, Ventilator, HRV or ERV
CONTROL FROM ANYWHERE: Easily adjust your thermostat from wherever you are using your iOS (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch) or Android device. The ecobee mobile app is available in the App Store or on Google Play. Works with: Apple Homekit, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT and more.
BUILT-IN ALEXA: Control your thermostat using your voice with built-in Alexa. Ask to play music, hear the news, set a timer, adjust the temperature, and so much more. Wifi connectivity is ieee 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz. Tip-make sure your HVAC panel is fully closed. Some systems will not turn on if the cover panel has not been closed properly.Voltage Type:Line Voltage
Customers say
Customers find the thermostat easy to set up and appreciate its temperature control capabilities, particularly how it helps balance temperatures throughout the home. Moreover, the display receives positive feedback, and customers consider it worth the money, with one noting how it balanced their electric bill. Additionally, the thermostat’s accuracy is praised, with one customer highlighting its comprehensive reporting features. However, functionality and connectivity receive mixed reviews – while the built-in Alexa works great for some, others report it doesn’t work at all, and several customers mention connectivity issues with their Wi-Fi network.

Quick and Easy install, even for an old HVAC system…
My house was built in the 60s, the HVAC is about 20 years old…I bought this to help maintain better temperature in the home and better regulate the older system…It works fantastic. It comes with the adapter to hook up an older system… it plugs in just right, super easy…And it maintains the temperature in our home much better…We get 2 total sensors in the package (the thermostat has a built-in one) and the extra one… and we bought 2 more of the Room Sensors (updated) and they link up to the system just fine.I recommend between 3 and 4 total sensors, on each floor, to give the system the best chance of working properly with this system. It is saving me money, nearly paying for the thermostat and sensors… by the end of summer, it will have paid for itself. That is a bonus, because next year, it will save me money.Alexa integration works flawlessly…

Easy to use, easy to program, and easy to set up the app on your phone!
I just moved into a house built in the 90s that had a completely ancient thermostat. Honestly, I could not even figure out how to use it, it was just so archaic! I bought this and had a professional install it, so I can’t comment on the installation process, but I can say that it didn’t take the guy I hired too long to do it, and I didn’t hear any groaning or swearing, so I’m guessing it was pretty easy as long as you know what you’re doing! 🙂 The interface is very intuitive and easy to figure out, and setting up the app on my phone was a breeze — the Ecobee unit basically walks you through it.Features: I can set the temperature I want it to cool my house down to, the temp I want it to heat my house up to, and I can set it to auto (it will heat or cool as necessary) or I can specially just tell it to cool or to heat. There are settings for vacation mode. But really the best for me is the app! If I’m away from the house, I can check on what the temp is and I can turn the heat or A/C on while I’m away — say, 1 hour before I’m about to arrive home, so my house is at my desired temp when I arrive! Also, if I’m in my back room and feeling too lazy to walk to the center of the house where the thermostat is, I just whip out my phone, open the app, and turn the A/C on or off (whatever I am looking to do) without having to get off the couch! Ah, modern technology is awesome! :-)I did not integrate it with Alexa as I don’t have Alexa, and I did not use the remote sensor so I cannot comment on that, though that does seem like a handy little extra!

The remote sensor is a big deal (and installation tip)
I’ve installed ecobee thermostats in three different homes now, and they are always my first choice. A big reason is the remote sensor. The ecobee senses where you are, and provides the temperature at that location.I will add, however, that installation required jumping through some hoops at two of the locations. The directions are very clear, but there are just so many wiring possibilities that eco doesn’t always get it right. With my latest installation, it told me to ignore a jumper wire, but when I plugged in the thermostat, it didn’t even come on. I pulled it back off the wall and rewired it to include the jumper, and it appeared to work fine. But then when the first day came that I needed to turn on the A/C, it wasn’t even an option on the menu.So why do I still give it 5 stars? Because technical support was amazing! They answered almost immediately in the middle of the night, and walked me through the problem. My installation tip is that if your old thermostat had any jumper wires, immediately get tech support on the line. They can trouble shoot the unit remotely, and even electronically “re-wire” the unit.

Love it!!!
Unfortunately, the HVAC guy who set this up (only had him do it because we had other HVAC issues) and he DISABLED ALL THE SMART FEATURES! He does not believe in smart thermostats and would not do what I had asked for. Little does he know that I have a strong IT background and this is extremely easy to set up. He did not connect it to our wifi, he disabled the second sensor, did everything possible to sabotage our ecobee. Fortunately, this is very easy to set up and I quickly connected it to the wifi, set up the smart features and enabled the second sensor. I can now monitor the house when away, set it to economically set the temperature when the house is empty, etc. Initially bought a Nest system, but it would not work with the power that we had. The ecobee is much more flexible and works with more systems. Two thumbs up and highly recommended.

Works great, but room sensor wont pair
Thermostat itself works great, full of features I’ll never use. The remote sensor refuses to connect. Thermostat will repeatedly ask to connect and it will spin and try to sync and then fail, then find the sensor again, over and over. Tried all the online suggestions and rebooting both, nothing works.

Can regulate from anywhere with wifi, saves us money during peak hours.
Would have been easy had we not blown a fuse in our ac handler which we didn’t know we had. The tech was great, very knowlegeable and patient and didn’t rush us at all. We have had one of these as well as a Nest. This one is easier to use. We live in AZ so it is great when we can have different schedules for vacation and for peak use time. And when we are ready to come home we can decide to change the temp early if we want. Saves us money and time. Can create your own schedules and add them to any day you want. Can copy schedule from one day to another.
