Trying to replace a 15+ year-old halogen torchiere, not quite as bright and kinda odd looking but does a pretty good job and the app seems to work better with this one than the other two Govee lights I’ve bought.The app is pretty maddening when it comes to what should be the simple prospect of setting up several lights exactly as you want and saving that exact config to go back to.Also, the DreamView scenes, especially trying to have a nice relaxing music-synced show… you’re gonna know real fast if anybody in the house has epilepsy!

Easy set up & connectivity; schedule/timer; hundreds of colors
I own several (14?) Govee products, and am excited to review this new torchiere lamp.Here’s my first impressions, pros, and cons:Packaging/Set up: The lamp comes very well packaged. The way that the poles are packaged make set up a breeze (the wiring is already threaded through the poles, and there’s no guessing about how to put them together. You only have to determine which end plugs into the lamp and which end plugs into the power cord (both are obvious).Quality/Materials: The entire unit is sturdy – the base is heavy enough that bumping into the lamp won’t knock it down, but not so heavy that it’s hard for this senior woman to easily pick up and move. The light/lamp part does have some weight to it, so of course you could knock it over, but overall I think it’s fairly well balanced.The wires and connectors/connections are substantial, not flimsy.The cord is long enough (at least 6′, but I didn’t actually measure it) to make placement easy in most rooms.The actual light feels fairly sturdy – it’s not a cheap feeling plastic, although it seems like it may scratch easily. Mine looked a bit scuffed out of the box, but wiped off just fine. Time will tell.The aluminum poles (not plastic) are threaded well and easy to screw together.Connectivity/set up: Setting the lamp up with your WiFi, Govee phone app and various smart home apps/devices **is as simple as it gets**, seriously. I’ve never had any issue with the set up or pairing of a Govee product – one press of the on/off button and that’s it, assuming you already have the Govee app and have turned on your WiFi/Bluetooth on your cell phone. I’ve had nightmares from numerous other brands/devices after trying to pair them or set them up, but not so with Govee.The lamp has a manual off/on button, but you need the Govee app to (or Alexa, etc.) to use all of the various modes/options. It is recognized/operated by most of the popular smart home apps (including Matter which I know nothing about but it comes with specific instructions for that). I have Alexa, Google, and Smart Things, and they immediately recognized the device without me having to do anything.Use: This lamp is ideal, in my opinion, for ambiance and/or for a game room. The light isn’t designed to be used as a primary light source light up an entire room (at least not for reading or doing tasks). It projects almost all of it’s light upwards onto the wall or ceiling, depending on how much you tilt the lamp head. While the light is fairly bright, it’s not bright enough to use as your primary light source in a room of any size.You can see the “bulbs” inside the lamp housing (as you can see in the photos). I keep mine tilted toward a corner, so it doesn’t bother me, but if you put it on ‘bright white’ light and look directly at it you may find that to be an issue. However, I would think that most people would direct the light away/upward, so I don’t really know if this is much of a concern.You can set the light to hundreds of scenes and colors. Most, but not all, ‘scenes’ can have their speed adjusted. There’s an AI and DIY function that I haven’t used, I assume to make your own ‘scenes’, but the dozens of preset scenes are enough for me.You can have the light respond to music/sound, which I don’t really use. I have it in my gaming room for indirect ‘vibe’ lighting.The light projects light onto a fairly large area of the ceiling, several feet. The head tilts 60 degrees, and only *in one direction*, or it can face upwards.Scheduling: Setting a schedule for the lights to come on/go off are easily set by using the ‘timer’ function. You can set multiple times of the day/days of the week for the lamp to go on and off.Cons: If I were to list a ‘con’, I would say that I’ve been unable to find whether or not the unit is ETL or UL certified. To me that is important, but I can’t find any information one way or the other.The Govee app takes some getting used to – probably because it can perform so many functions with so many products it’s not quite as ‘simple’ as say the Alexa app or other smart apps. Every time you set something up or make a change, you have to remember to click a little check mark and/or the ‘save’ button for that function. That said, I can operate it just fine.Price: I think it’s a fair price for the features, scheduling ability, etc. Govee often has sales and coupons, so be on the lookout for that.I haven’t had the lamp long enough to speak about it’s longevity, but I’m hopeful that it will hold up over time like my other Govee products.Govee makes several floor lamps and other lights, so it’s worth checking each one out to see the features of each to determine which one fits your needs.*I received this lamp as part of Amazon’s Vine program in exchange for my honest review of the product. To be honest and fair, I say this lamp functions as advertised, looks nice, and provides some cool ambiance to your space. With Amazon’s return policy, you really don’t have anything to lose by giving it a try. If you want a lamp for indirect, ambiance/vibe lighting, ease of set up, timer/scheduling, I think you’ll be happy with your purchase.
