The Honeywell MK9540-32A38 VoyagerCG handheld barcode reader is black, has a laser and a USB cable to connect to the host system, and can be used to scan and decode linear one-dimensional (1D) barcodes. A 650-nanometer (nm), 825 milliwatt (mW) laser produces a single line of light to scan the barcode. A trigger automatically activates the laser when a barcode is placed within range of the device’s infrared (IR) sensor. A CodeGate setting allows the scan line to be visible but prevents barcode data from being transmitted until a button is pushed to help reduce accidental scans. The barcode reader’s USB cable can be plugged into the USB port of a computer or another host system (sold separately) to transmit barcode data. A configuration utility allows the firmware to be updated as needed to take advantage of new improvements or features. A stand (sold separately) enables the barcode reader to be used in a fixed position. This product weighs 149 g (5.3 oz.) and measures 198 x 78 x 56 mm/7.8 x 3.1 x 2.2 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) For a complete set of product specifications, please see the manufacturer’s brochure.
Barcode scanners, also known as barcode readers, can be used to scan and decode barcodes and to transmit barcode data to a computer or another host system. Barcode readers with a single-line laser can be used to scan linear, one-dimensional (1D) barcodes. Some lasers can produce light in an omnidirectional pattern to allow scanning of barcodes from different angles. Other barcode readers contain CCD (charge-coupled device) light sensors instead of a laser for accuracy and wear resistance. Barcode scanners with raster scanning, area imaging, and other scanning technologies can allow scanning of two-dimensional (2D) or Portable Document Format 417 (PDF417) barcodes, among other types. Some barcode readers provide onboard flash memory to allow the storage of barcode data before transmitting it to a computer or host system through a USB cable or wireless WLAN or Bluetooth connection. Many barcode readers have a handle for handheld use and come with a stand or a charging cradle for fixed position applications, while others are designed for stationary use on a counter or another flat surface. Some portable readers are small enough to be carried in a pocket or attached to a lanyard. Barcode readers are used at retail checkout counters and other points of sale (POS) locations and in warehouses and shipping facilities.
Honeywell manufactures products, materials, and technologies used in aerospace, transportation, and automation and control systems. The company, founded in 1885, is headquartered in Morristown, NJ.

Works Better than acticipated
I purchased this UPC/bar code scanner to scan UPC codes for my home business. I needed a device that would be reliable and could handle a workload of 200 – 300 scans on a daily basis. After doing research on various brabds and models, I settled on this once because the feature set and price were right up my alley. I purchased it in used condition from a very professional seller on Amazon. However, even though the item was listed as being in used condition, it works and looks as good as or close to new. And I’ll explain what I mean when I say that the scanner “works better than acticipated”.Not only does it get the job of scanning done very quickly. It has a stand for easy hands free operation. There is also an auto detect feature in that while on the stand, items that are placed under the scanner are auto detected and scanned (**bonus**). I wasn’t aware of this feature and so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this scanner “works better than acticipated”.I would recommend this item 100% to anyone with a need to scan multiple UPC/bar codes, doing so reliably every time. Small work load or large, I think this scanner gets the job doneextremely well and in my opinion, as mentioned, it “works better than acticipated”.

Plug-n-play!
This scanner functions perfectly with our point of sale program. It simply plugs in via USB cable to the computer. No setup, just plug it in and start scanning.

Unreliable
The scanner has begun to be unreliable. It won’t scan every barcode. Frustrating. I would not buy again.

This scanner is slow
Comparing to the Xenon 1900, this scanner is a bit slow andsometimes it can’t some non-perfect barcodes. I would recommendthe xenon 1900 GSR for a liitle more money.

Quality!
Works very well. No hit or misses when scanning. We use it to keep track of student’s attendance for certain events and this scanner is a wonderful solution.

No progamming help – so virtually useless with a cash register
We have used this model of scanner for years and are pleased with the performance. I purchased five scanners to replace our current ones that have been in use over 5 years on a seasonal basis in a retail setting. None of them came with an instruction booklet to get them set up. We are a small business so unless you are incredible savvy or have a department who sets these up you will have a challenge in front of you. In the time I was trying to get these to start working the return window has closed and now I am stuck with 5 useless to me scanners.
