It’s not who you know anymore, it’s who knows you!
Much has been written about searching for jobs and much of it fits into what I refer to as “Do This / Don’t Do That”. Bill Fitzgerald however has focused his readers on “the long game” of building and sustaining relationships, a personal Board of Directors he refers to as My Vital Few.Indeed it’s not how many people we know that counts, it the value in trusted advice and counsel when we need it that matters. In particular, Bill removes the confusion surrounding “networking” by explaining the process and not limiting it to attending “networking” events to collect business cards. Bill equips his readers with a thoughtful cache of communication examples – emails and conversations in order to network effectively over the long game of one’s career, using it not only to change jobs, but also to get promoted and solve business challenges.”How To Find A New Job Without Looking” is a quick read and is full of career nuggets. I highly recommend it.Dale KlamfothFormer Executive Director, Career Management Center, A. B. Must-read book for those who want to have excellent careers
One of the best books I have read about job search, if not the best book, I have read about job search. This is a very clear way one should look about ones career from beginning to end. This book touches on topics that other career experts do not touch, such as the power of Alumni Networks and why they are so powerful.I discusses how to deal with deficiencies in one’s network, cold-calling and other topics that I believe should be.I will make it a point to share this book with all of our children as they plan for their careers – I believe this book is that good.

Great advice from a great author!
Networking doesn’t have to be work. Bill does a fantastic job explaining how to build connections that last and help lead to success. The best jobs are never posted – they’re the ones you find through your network of contacts. You’re also more likely to get the job if you know someone. Learn how. Great book. Full of practical tips. You can tell Bill knows job hunting inside and out.

A must-have career companion
This book is a must have. The advice is presented in a friendly and readable style that makes it a good read and future reference guide. I really enjoyed the many examples of emails using multiple scenarios that Bill presents and you will find yourself in at some point. He steps you through how to build your vital few. He backs up his claims with some really good data. Even the most obvious advice and lessons are given details with a modern approach. I came to see his point about networking as relationship building and a lifestyle. I used the techniques to land my newest job and promised myself I would always practice it before I find myself in a similar situation in the future. I also appreciated his take on LinkedIn which has it’s value, but it alone is not a replacement for a holistic approach to networking. I left with a greater appreciation that “it is who know rather than what you know.” I will keep handy and at the appropriate time, make it mandatory reading for my adult children as they embark on their careers.

Seems obvious but often gets lost in hustle bustle of daily life
Billâs book lays an excellent framework of how you should approach lifelong networking, not just the people you worked with, but the other individuals with whom you have or should make a connection along the way. Itâs simple and practical, and Iâd recommend for anybody whoâs looking to improve their professional networking.

Why didnât anyone tell me this before?
This book has really made me stop and think about how I was looking for a job. Yes, I was guilty of sitting on job boards applying for job after job after job. Primarily a huge waste of time.As I read through this book I kept saying to myself âthat makes senseâ or âwhy the hell didnât I think of that?â.I definitely recommend that job seekers, and those that would be open to a new job should it be offered, read this book. Itâs enlightening, entertaining, and will make you say âwhy didnât I think of thatâ at least once.

Fitzgeraldâs insights into networking, creating opportunities are not only practical, but also deeply insightful. What sets this book part is its focus on the power of authentic connections and relationship building in the professional world. Personally, I am no longer on the job market, but after using these practices, it is proven to be so successful, I get contacted on average once a month regarding new opportunities. This is a must read for anyone who is looking to advance their career or make a transition to a new job. This book is a beacon of hope for anyone feeling stuck or uncertain about the professional future. I canât recommend it highly enough!

Bill has taken the time to share his personal experience and perspective for all of us job seekers. Truly priceless advice on how to prepare for the process in an organized and systematic way. It’s not an easy process but, having the tools and guidance makes it more digestible and focused. Through this book, Bill has become my sensi as I look for my next role…simply brilliant guidance! I highly recommend this book and think everyone in Talent Acquisition should review it a source for information and support on how to look for candidates as well!

After reading the digital copy, I bought the paperback for my daughter-in-law.What I most liked about this book:1) The writing is clear and crisp.2) The structure is excellent.3) Bill Fitzgerald’s advice is wise, sensible and useful, as is the process he outlined.4) The sample letters he provided as examples of how to, and not to, network effectively, will be very helpful to all his readers.5) The repetition of the key points throughout the book does not feel repetitive; instead, it helps cement the advice in oneâs brain – eg. âThe value of vital relationshipsâ.6). I love the âcoachingâ question at the end of every chapter (I spent the past 20 years, before retiring, as an executive coach)
