Solid 6E wi-fi router from Motorola
I’ve always liked Motorola products. In fact, I’m carrying a Motorola cellphone as we speak. That’s why I ordered this 6E wi-fi router without hesitation. I initially got it for my ‘backup’ wi-fi at my office but also took it home to try out in the more demanding environment of my oddly constructed house.I guess if I was worried about the design of a router messing up my aesthetics this would be the one to go with. It’s downright monolithic with concealed ports and just one light on front. I got the black to make it more discreet though there’s also a white version available. Inside there are 8 high-gain antennas which claims a coverage of more than 3000 square feet. At my office–all of one floor and with few obstacles–it did great both in terms of coverage area and throughput. As it was my ‘private’ backup wi-fi I wasn’t able to test it with heavy client usage but it covered the whole floor area and was fast!It had a little bit of trouble with my home which is spread out on to three floors. I’ve got a mesh system at home with multiple units to deal with the unusual layout. The coverage wasn’t quite as good here–it didn’t do as well as my mutli-unit mesh system. That said, it performed better than I thought it would and much better than the last single unit system I had tried.Overall, it’s a pretty basic unit for this price point. It has built in security functions, a robust smartphone app and can handle over 100 devices. You also get a free year of premium security services. It’s a solid router though there’s not much to distinguish it from others of a similar market position. Except for the monolithic design. Recommended!

Great WiFi Router but has pay service for premium features
I got this Motorola WiFi 6E router for two reasons. First, my house is about 3000 sq feet and I have some WiFi connection issues for some of my wifi-enabled floor light cameras on the corners on my house. And second, I have 2GB internet but its only available on one hard-wired ethernet cable. The MQ20 router has solved both these problems for me, my whole house and a good portion of my yard is not covered by a very good to strong WiFi signal and the speed of the connection has also improved. When I got started with the setup, I first had to download the Motorola MotoSynch+ mobile phone app. As best as I can tell, there is not a way to connect to the router through a web browser, which is the way I’ve been connecting to my routers for 20+ years. The MotoSynch+ app is okay, but I don’t like having to have my phone to be able to router rather than being able to do that from any computer or (almost any other) device that is connected to the router. The other thing that was rather disappointing about this router is the need to subscribe to a Motorola service to gain access to premium features. Motorola does provide the first year for free, which they claim is a $90 value (the service can also be purchased for $10 a month). The service include premium Cybersecurity protection such as ad-blocking and malware protection, hacker detection, network scanning, and real-time updates. The service also includes premium parental controls with user and device management, content filtering, browsing history, and internet scheduling.Overall, this router is a nice, powerful and very capable WiFi 6e mesh router. However, Motorola has over simplified the configuration of router (there is no reason to only provide a mobile app for setting up and configuring the router) and locked away many of the best features behind a paywall service so you have to keep paying over and over again for using the product. Given the high price of this router, the advanced features should be provided with the purchase of the device or drop the purchase This price much lower.

No More WiFi Dead Zones at Home
This router took my internet from “maybe it’ll load” to “wow, Netflix actually plays in 4K without buffering.” I set it up once and instantly noticed the difference. The signal now covers every corner of the house, even the basement that used to be a WiFi graveyard. It handles multiple devices like a champ. I’ve had my phone streaming, the Xbox downloading, and smart home gadgets all running at once, and the speed never dropped. That’s a huge win in a house where everyone’s online at the same time.Security features are built-in, which makes me feel better about nosy neighbors trying to hop on my network. Setting up guest WiFi is easy too, so when friends come over, I don’t have to give them my main password.

Get a different router – Seriously
For the price of this router, I expected a feature rich device that would let me configure it to suit my home network. Unfortunately that is not the case at all. The router is heavily locked down and you cannot even access basic NAT settings which makes it unusable for anyone who does self hosting like Plex or other services. On top of that there is no web interface at all. Everything has to be managed through the Motorola Plus app which might be fine for casual users but is incredibly limiting if you want any real control. To make matters worse they try to upsell you on a $90 per year subscription for their security package. For a device that is already this expensive that is just unreasonable. The only positive thing I can say is that setup was quick and easy. The app does a decent job walking you through it. But beyond that this router is simply not worth the money. If it cost around $100 I could see it being acceptable for basic users. At this price point it is an absolute disappointment. My advice is to stay away from this one.
