Customers say

Customers find the modem easy to set up and appreciate its superior speed, with one noting it takes about 30 minutes to convert from Comcast. The functionality and connectivity receive mixed reviews – while some say it performs flawlessly, others report it stops working after 6 months and experience intermittent connectivity issues. The modem’s lifespan is concerning, with many reporting it lasts only 2 years and 3 months, and customers note issues with multiple LED indicator lights dying. While some consider it a money saver, others find it not worth the cost.

Bit of a battle to get up and running. Does not include wifi.
It took me a while to get it to actually get online and working with Xfinity and the network I have setup in my home. I needed to go online with my cellphone and go to the activate a new device page while just my computer and the new modem were networked together. Once it was activated I had to reboot the modem and it then went online and was networked into my computer and online. Then I had to get my wifi router passing the internet from the new modem which took some time. I reset the automatic DNS selection settings and that got everything working together so all my network devices got online. Since then everything has just worked including the phone lines and it’s fast. It’s a nice fast cable modem with telephone voice support, just be prepared for some work to get it setup and working properly if you have a complicated network with a lot of devices to work with.

Works perfectly–if you know what to do.
This device was set up and working perfectly in 15 minutes–but it is very important to know how to best do it, which I discovered from various online forums. It is designed to work with Xfinity, and is more expensive because it has phone ports, which were important to us. If they are not important to you, buy a cheaper model. Now for the set-up. The most important point in setting it up is to NOT deal with any verbal phone tech support, and it will become clear why. Xfinity’s own website describes how to use the mobile phone app for setup–use it. Once you have downloaded the phone app and signed in to it, it allows Xfinity to identify you and know where your service is immediately. In the app, go to Account, Add new device, Your own–and follow the directions. The only input required of you is for the CM MAC number which is on the bottom of the unit. They do not need or want the MTA MAC number–forget about it. It took 8 minutes for their system to identify the device, and about another 6-7 minutes to set it up. That was all, and everything, phone line included, worked perfectly with my correct phone number. Given my previous interactions with Xfinity, I was amazed at how seamlessly this worked. They have gotten their act together–almost. Here’s the hooker. I went on the the Xfinity website, and it had immediately identified that I now had my own modem. But I also wanted to call Xfinity to confirm that the old modem/router would be taken off my bill once I returned it–big mistake. Their automated phone tree started off by saying that it had detected a problem with my modem and wanted permission to reset it!!! I shouted no, no ,no and hung up. What I suspect is going on is that the Xfinity answering system and probably any employee you would talk to is operating off a legacy system which does not update immediately, like your account website and whatever infrastructure uses the mobile phone app to set up new equipment. The bottom line is to use the new mobile phone app for any setup and NOT, under any circumstances call for any tech support, verbal or automated, because they are not immediately in touch with the new setup infrastructure. I hope his helps any subsequent customers. With the new setup system, the device worked immediately and flawlessly.

    Customer Support is incompentent
Your service is well intentioned, but highly ineffective. While actual humans are easy to reach, enthusiastic to help, seem to be knowledgeable, and were overall, quite excellent, the end result was horrible. I initially contacted Netgear on 12/3, regarding a modem that was fried in a recent power outage we had. It had been less than 30 days since purchase. And, I had purchased the one year extended warranty. So, I thought I could get a replacement fairly quickly. That was not the case. Even though I selected the expediated replacement option (next day delivery for an additional $29 fee), I got nothing. Nine days later, and my replacement has still not shipped. The very first tech to support me created two accounts in my name, with different email addresses. The first was a “comcast.net” account, which could not receive email from Netgear. I have no idea why. But, once that had been confirmed, I provided an alternate email address (gmail), that could successfully receive email from Netgear. Unfortunately, rather than simply editing the email address on file, your tech opened a separate account for me under the new email address. That account owned no product. So, that account could also not get a replacement. Every several days, I would get another email or text message asking for more information (proof of purchase, photos of the front, side, back, and bottom of the defective modem, and such). I sent those immediately. Still no replacement. Today, I was thrilled to hear from FedEx (not Netgear) that a return shipment label had been created. 8 hours later, the package that went with that label finally arrived at FedEx. Today, 10 days after my initial contact, I finally received my replacement modem. 10 days? Really? On a scale of 1-10, I would have rated Netgear with a 10 if I had received my replacement on the expected and paid for next day. Nope. Rating is now 9. The day after? Nope. Rating is now 8. Simple math here. Took 10 days to get the replacement, so my rating is one star out of a possible 10.Not happy. And, I feel you owe me the $29 fee that I paid for expedited service. I certainly did not get that.
