Music lovers rejoice! Those looking for the ultimate in CD playback from an audiophile-grade component will be impressed with a high-precision, multi-bit D/A converter and 128 x oversampling. Others looking for convenience will thrill at the sight of 6-disc capability, 6 repeat modes, 40 track programming—and no worries about interruptions to your music, with the ability to change 5 discs while the last one is still playing. All will marvel at the crystal-clear playback, enhanced by our exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), for a smoother sounding audio signal. Just as crucial to your sonic enjoyment is Direct Digital Path, a heavily shielded, high-quality cable that protects the delicate audio signal from noise emitted by the surrounding circuits. Housed in a sturdy chassis graced with a brushed aluminum front panel, the DX-C390 is ready to provide hours of uninterrupted music—for the soundtrack to your life. Key Technology Features: 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD.RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s. MP3 Playback: This audio format achieves about a 10:1 compression over conventional CD audio. What does this mean? You can store many more songs using the same amount of space. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in MP3 format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording.

Customers say
Customers find the CD changer well-built, easy to set up and connect, and appreciate its sound quality, noting it’s quieter than expected. They like its capacity to hold 6 CDs and consider it good value for money. However, the functionality receives mixed reviews – while many say it works well, some report issues with CDs not playing properly. The size is also a concern, with customers noting it’s larger than expected and doesn’t fit standard audio racks.

A good investment.
The Onyko cd player replaced my 35-40 year old 5CD player. I am very happy with it and was able to use my 40 year old Panasonic speakers and Panasonic (also 40 years old) double tape player, radio and record player. I was amazed at the sound quality that came thru’ my speakers. I believe the new CD player has a capability to improve the clarity of the sound in those old speakers. All parts work well, I hooked it up to equipment easily. It seems to be a solid durable unit as the changer is smooth and no skipping of CD’s. I was also happy to see it was made in Japan and not China.

Load it up and walk away
Just got this unit. (2 weeks+/- ago) Good sound. Read directions first. Maybe delicate, but quality seems good. Very functional, can adjust play back order, play multiple cd styles and MP3’s. It’s not instantaneous. Load it up and walk, dance or whatever away. Like I stated , I have not had this very long and have not tested every function yet, still learning how it works, but it seems a good player. A little expensive for my budget but boom boxes ain’t what’s happening.

Great Function and Sound
I purchased this Onkyo 6-disc player (DXC390) in April of 2009, and have had no problems or complaints in the 26 months since. The 6-disc changer’s playback quality is nothing short of amazing. Although I purchased a souped-up netbook to use as an .mp3 library for my home theater, and have my entire library burned at 320kbs, there is obviously no comparing the compressed quality of .mp3s to the crystal clear definition achieved with this CD player. This is regardless of using Onkyo’s “Music Optimizer” or Soundblaster’s “Crystallizer” enhancements for restoring .mp3 losses; neither brings the music back. I do not work as a sound-engineer, in a Hollywood studio, nor a symphony hall; but I can say without a doubt that my untrained ear is very pleased by the step-up from a high bitrate .mp3 (with or without optimization) to the real thing on CD. I rarely use the netbook, in spite of its conveniences.I have never had a problem with the front-loading tray; never have had a disc “jump” out of its disc-well; have used it for many nights of 8+ hours of constant random playback (often switching in new discs during playback;) and have played over 300 different discs without problems of playback/player identification issues. I do not keep burned discs in my collection, so I cannot vouch for all varieties of copied music being compatible. My disc changer is paired with an Onkyo TX-SR806 A/V Receiver via an optical connection, and I have had exactly zero problems with either. I keep both in a somewhat open environment (1.5″ to the L, 6″ above, 12″ behind, and 18″ to the R of the stack) with an Antec component fan on top of the receiver to maximize air flow throughout. No troubles with overheating, and therefore, no loss of performance (permanent or otherwise.)The price is ridiculously fair. Would I purchase it again? Yes, without a doubt. I intend to buy a couple more units such that I have replacements if Onkyo ever stops producing these fine machines; I have 50+ years of life left, and I intend to jam to the bittersweet end.**UPDATE**: Today (Aug 19, 2011) I received my two new DXC390 units! They look identical to the original from the review above. Manufacture date of each is from 2011, meaning these are still being produced and not just old stock. Both of the new units are functioning without a hitch so far, and pumping out KISS Icons with graceful detail. It is fitting that these arrived today, as it is the 28-month anniversary date of receiving the first. The original unit is still rocking along, no problems! Now, if I can just get my fiancee to allow me to purchase three more of these over the first couple years of our marriage… :)By the way, I purchased a “Digital Audio” 3-way rotary digital optical selector switch for connection of all three disc-changers to the same A/V optical input. I am waiting for some new optical cables to come in the mail to connect them all up, at which time I will review the 3-way optical selector at the following link: Cables to Go 28734 Digital Audio Explorer Toslink Selector Switch

Onkyo DX-C390 is 2 thumbs down JUNK!
Well I wrote one review and it wasn’t good enough to publish or maybe a to good but however here we go again! If you’re looking for a good cd player that’s gonna last this is not the one for yoi!! The Onkyo DX-C390 I purchased started off pretty good, I connected it in optical mode and it sounded decent however when I give it the volume it had issues with SKIP CLIP SKIP CLIP SKIP CLIP and as you probably know that’s not good for your speakers or your ears!!Ok now for the timeline with warranty! It has a 1 year warranty however if you read the warranty content it tells you straight up that if it’s not purchased from a CERTIFIED SELLER THERE IS NO WARRANTY so read your content and purchase accordingly. There’s a extended warranty of 3 years for this DX-C390 unit, well if it lasts the first year you’re good, if it preforms for you as it did for me you will get barely over the warranty period and it’ll go haywire!! For me and many others if you read the reviews it will start malfunctioning. My situation it started playing and right at 47 seconds it would stop and the display would show track 99. I reset it with no luck, I have left it unplugged for up to 5 days then it actually played almost one whole song and stopped again showing track 99!! Grrrr right!!!I finally said forget it and ordered another brand, a great brand that was even used and right out of the gate it had a much better optical sound than the Onkyo DX-C390 and no skipping with volume like the Onkyo DX-C390!! This Onkyo DX-C390 was such a hunk of junk that it give me the mindset that I will never buy another Onkyo product as long as I live because when a person spends $300 on a Onkyo DX-C390 unit you would expect it to last 10+ years at least I expected this but the Onkyo DX-C390 fell WAY short of my expectations therefore ruining my liking of any Onkyo product!!!Good Luck with your decision of whatever product you purchase but if you value your hard earned $$ DON’T BUY ONKYO ESPECIALLY THE ONKYO DX-C390!!! You have been warned!!!

Good product
Great CD player so far. No problems with it. Itâs nice to load six CDs in it and not have to change CDâs for a while.

Great value at the price.
This is another excellent Onkyo product. Easy to set up and use. While you cannot load the entire Ring cycle into it, the six disc capacity covers everything else. I run it through an older Onkyo rcvr/amp into Klipshorn speakers and the sound quality is superb.

I just started getting back into listening to CDs and needed a great player. Onkyo was highly rated and the machine works flawlessly. I can’t believe how I forgot how good music could sound from a non compressed format.
