Form, Function, and Ease – Great for travel and those who appreciate AV quality
The Opal Tadpole has surpassed my expectations, fitting seamlessly into my minimalist lifestyle with its small, portable, and aesthetically pleasing design. As a frequent traveler, its convenience shines whether I’m making a quick call from an airport lounge, the little nook at my favorite coffee shop, or my desk. The standout feature, undoubtedly, is the video quality, a crucial aspect for someone like me with a discerning eye for the nuances of video and audio due to my background as a once aspiring actor (welp).The Tadpole’s picture quality compared to built-in laptop cameras has made me appreciate its value, especially in the era of remote work. The quality between the Tadpole and built-in cameras is night and day. The clarity, sharpness, and vividness of the footage make virtual interactions feel as close to in-person as possible. In hindsight, my only regret is not gifting Tadpoles to all my regular Zoom/Teams contacts. It’s a camera that offers great value, particularly friendly for beginners, thanks to its clear footage and user-friendly design.

Not worth it in late 2024 / early 2025
I want to love this camera but unfortunately it’s kind of mid for me. I love the hardware and for the most part the level of control you get with the software. But the software is what’s holding this camera back for me. On my M3 Air, the software feels heavy / bloated and is not reliable enough to use for a professional that uses their webcam for hours every day to take customer meetings.The features I care about are disabled when I try use it on my 2019 Intel MBP 16. That laptop has an i9, 32GB of RAM and an AMD GPU but according to the software developers that’s not enough to run the beta quality software.So unfortunately this camera sits in a desk drawer perhaps waiting for either updated software or a time when built-in support supersedes the need for the buggy bloated software suite.

Over priced with many issues
Audio is choppy. Video is aweful. Cable is too short. The clip is too thin. No controller software, no features. Paid a little more for an insta360 and very happy.

Great With Few Flaws, Mainly just a wishlist for a V2
Let me just say that this webcam is very small, smaller than you might expect. For how small this webcam is it packs a heavy punch with pretty good video quality and excellent performance. The only reason why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is more so because of my personal wishlist for this item. I wish they made a V2 that was more compatible with desktop monitors, especially with a detachable USB-C cable for better compatibility for desktops and perhaps a clip or hook mechanism to mount it on the top of the monitor. I really hope the Opal team sees this review and takes my review to heart. I know my requests are kind of niche, however, the build quality and aesthetic of this webcam comes across as being very high quality and reminds me a great deal of an Apple product which is just love. The entirety of the webcam could be the exact same in a V2 besides the things I mentioned that could make it better and it would probably be the most desired webcam on the market. Even the silicone lens cover is such a nice touch and just brings the whole package together. I did have to return it due to it not being quite the right fit for me, but if Opal could make a V2 with a detachable cable and maybe a monitor mounting option that would just be the total package for me. They could just make it with a detachable cable and that would be enough for me to buy one, the monitor mounting option isnât even a necessity, I was able to just hang the webcam over the bezel of my monitor and use the cable as weight to make it almost act like a grappling hook, the webcam being the hook part, that is. Overall a great product that could use a few tweaks in a V2 to become a god-tier product. If the Opal team happens upon this review please take my suggestions to heart and I hope my suggestions find you well.

tiny webcam, huge upgrade
I am loving this webcam! Iâve been using the Tadpole for my 4+ hours of MS Teams and Zoom meetings every day at work and itâs been a significant upgrade from my previous webcam and microphone combination.Since switching from my old webcam to Tadpole, my coworkers have noticed a huge difference in the image quality and clarity of my incoming video as well as on the clarity of my audio, saying theyâre both significantly better and impressively clear. I did my own test of the difference in microphone output between my AirPods Pro and the Tadpole, and the Tadpole wins by a landslide – itâs so clear and crisp compared to a very muffled output of the AirPods.Tadpole is definitely great for bringing along with my laptop when Iâm working away from my usual office desk, and the clip on Tadpole expands wide enough to mount onto my larger monitor display at my desk. I love how easy it was to start using Tadpole as well â I plugged into one of my USB-C ports on my Windows laptop and it was ready to go in about 10 seconds. Also Iâve found the ability to mute/unmute myself on calls using the USB-C connector to be super convenient and a nice added feature.Overall Iâm enjoying using Opalâs Tadpole webcam every day and plan on continuing to use it at home and on the go!

terrible cable
Video quality is great however the cord is so short and the dumb cord organizer can’t be removed making the cord even shorter. It barely makes it to the middle of my MacBook. Very overpriced for such a poorly designed cable.

Quality is out of this world.Two negatives would be no carry case and if you lose the little rubber camera cover they canât send a replacement (I asked)

Was Leute teilweise in Teams-Besprechungen an Kameras nutzen, ist eine Zumutung! Selbst an den aktuellen Macbooks kommen die Kameras nicht ansatzweise an das heran, was dieses kleine Juwel liefert.Es gehört mittlerweile zu meinem Standard in meiner Aktentasche. Klasse Produkt!
