Great buy and better sound than regular bluetooth speakers
Bought this for my daughter a few years back as a random present when I had an extra commission. For whatever reason, she’s gotten into my CDs. I like how you can get the radio on it so I don’t have to stream from my phone and get interrupted when I get calls. I listen mostly to classical public radio when I’m working. The sound is so much better than the high end bluetooth speakers that I have. I think it sounds so much better as there’s a left and a right speaker. It’s also kind of classic retro. I used to live in Europe so I have an affection for Phillips products.

I got it for my husbands birthday. He had an older system that no longer played any of his cs’s outside. This system is very good for what he wanted and the sound is excellent. It has FM and Bluetooth with small speakers but big sound.

Philips M4205: Good sound, poor functionality
First, the positives: This system sounds very nice considering the price point. It was easy to set up and its footprint is small.The Negatives: I bought this bookshelf system for one feature. Specifically to be able to play music from my iPod and iPhone. The unit does neither. Nor does the bluetooth work. I set it up and plugged in my iPod. The LED display says its reading the files and then displays a message saying “No USB”. I checked the connection (its connected) then tried a different device. Same result. I went to Philips website for support and downloaded the user guide. The guide states the system won’t work with some devices (it doesn’t specify which). A BIG negative like that should have been mentioned in the product description.Another negative in my opinion is the chintzy feel of the controls and the less than smooth opening and closing of the CD tray. My expectation is this unit won’t last very long, however, given the size of the box and the hassle factor to return for a refund, I will just keep it and play CD’s for as long as it lasts. Overall I would not recommend this product. If you are still set on buying one, do yourself a favor and make sure it will interface with your MP3 player & bluetooth.**UPDATE**March 31, 2023 I have made several attempts to contact Philips for support to find out why my mp3 devices don’t work with USB connection. All I get are automated responses from the company saying they will respond in 24-48 hours. They never actually address my issues. In addition the CD player has begun to make intermittent, loud clicking noises when playing CD’s. In light of the poor customer support and poor performance of the unit that was purchased less than 3 months ago, I would strongly recommend AGAINST purchase of this CD player.

Sound system is about sound quality.
I just received and unpacked this system and put in a CD. The sound quality is good. It could be better, much better. HOW?? The speaker wire is so, so incredibly cheap and NOT adequate to carry the power – watts from the receiver. The wire caries the power to the speaker. I learned a BIG lesson some 30 years ago. I have a full size 500 Watts total power hi end stereo receiver. 500 x 5 = yes it can drive 5 speakers. I connected it to the receiver with basic 18 gage wire. Then some months later I decided to buy a high quality OFC = oxygen free copper wire and gold plated banana plugs. My wife was in a kitchen and heard the difference and asked me if I purchased new speakers. With cheap speaker wire I was choking the receiver. Do NOT fall for buying the copper wire and antenna as suggested. There is NO way to connect it. This is an add on to my review from a month ago. I have been listening to this system for a month now. I have decided to give this unit a 5 stars because it deserves it. It is really very good quality sound. Being an audiophile I still think the sound could be better. I will explore this by buying here on Amazon Mouke speakers and oxygen free 14 gauge copper wire finished with gold plated banana plugs and see how the sound improves. You see, I can do this because I am a perfectionist and can afford it. If you have any concerns as to the sound quality, put them aside. It sounds very good as is.

Por desgracia, cada vez es más difÃcil conseguir un buen minicomponente con reproductor de CD a un buen precio. Las opciones son cada vez menos. En México, Phillips solo vende el modelo más básico.Este “Micro Music System TAM4205/37” es una excelente opción para los melomanos que aún cuentan con una buena colección de CD’s. El precio es razonable y la calidad es buena.
