    Worst people ever!
I bought 2 units to upgrade my old thermostat. They were defective units, they would not connect to wifi which is why the whole reason for me purchasing them in the first place. I contacted customer support and we tried troubleshooting every way possible and still would not work. I return them and I lose $140 restocking fee. Punch of crooks. DEFINITELY DON’T RECOMMEND!!!

Expensive but required for my new system.
It works well most of the time. However I do have to reset it every few weeks. It is quite expensive but required for my new system.

Basic smart thermostat for Rheem or Ruud systems, with poor remote access ability
I had a new Ruud furnace and A/c installed 2 years ago. The furnace and A/C has worked perfectly but the Econet thermostat has been a nightmare. I had a Ecobee thermostat before and on long winter trips, I could connect to my thermostat and control and monitor furnace run time, remote temperatures in my home and easily control it to prevent freezing pipes, etc. Now I have this Econet thermostat. It does have intelligent communications with the furnace to give you diagnostic error codes if the furnace had a problem and these errors can be accessed via the app, but that is about the only good thing I can say about it. On the downside, the wi-fi implemetation/server connection/remote app has a major problem consistantly connecting from the remote app that I can never be certain it will be usable while I’m away from home. I’ve been working the the Econet people for over 2 years now and they usually make an attempt to resolve it, say it works fine from their end, only to fail from my end. I’ve swapped phones, routers, network placements, etc with the same results. Typically I have to attempt multiple times, logging in and out until it connected, then it works as advertised, but it is always a frustration. I fear that if my system had a problem, the communication issues would prevent me from knowing about it. If you read the app reviews in Google Play store, many, many users have exactly the same issue but Econet can’t seem to fix it. Pairing these problems with the limited data this “smart” thermostat has, I can’t see cycle history, I can’t remotely monitor furnace status, all I can do remotely is change the temp. I will be going back to an Ecobee and rewiring the furnace using standard 24v control wiring and forego the diagnostic info I purchased this thermostat for. A big dissappointment. Rheem and Ruud, fix your defective product!!!

    Sorry, Amazon- 0 for 2
Delivered in a plastic pillow pack (this is on Amazon) and the unit carton it was packed in was damaged and filthy (this is on Seller). I suspect it was used. It works, but had to be reset by the tech who installed it. Sorry, Amazon 0 for 2 on this purchase. For a $270 T’stat, disappointing.

Smart thermostat, definitely not a Nest
First thing: This thermostat will only work with a Rheem Econet water heater or HVAC unit. The good:Nice looking unit, and so far (2 days in) it works like it should. It was easy to hook up to my wifi, but you need to have the app loaded on your phone before you start. It was easy to program with a schedule, you enter one day and then copy it to however many other days you like. I’m retired, so my schedule is easy. After you hook it to wifi, you can get weather reports from the thermostat, that’s pretty cool.It can be set to pretty any way you want the attached device to work. I got a heat pump with strip heat, and as it came out of the box it was set to call for strip heat if there was a 2 degree difference in the outside temp and the set point. I set the strips to lockout above 20 degrees F, and will experiment to find the best setting for that.Another cool feature is that you can get a lot of system info from this. It tells you how the actual units are running and if there are any alerts on them. The bad:The app is pretty well useless if you’re used to a Nest. It allows you to set the temp and Home/Away status, that’s pretty much it. None of the diagnostic/status info is available through the app. You also have to drill down through the app to see if the unit is actually running. I think this is because Rheem water heaters can use this also, and all equipment is listed on the main page, so you have to pick one to get info on it.The Home/Away status is not automatic like it is on the Nest, you have to manually tell it you are home or gone. I have left the house a couple of times already without thinking about it and had to set it from the app (if I remembered to).It also does not tell you how much your unit runs each day. This is pretty handy to have if your electric utility lets you monitor your KWH usage like mine does. All in all, it is a very nice looking unit that is definitely not in the same league as the Nest. The newer Rheem units can be wired for the Nest, but I didn’t find that out until mine was installed, so I’m going to see how this does for a while and see if Rheem updates the software for it to add features.Update 5/1/19I raised my review to 4 stars after using the EcoNet thermostat for a while. The thermostat itself works very well. The app on the other hand is even more useless than I thought. It appears that the server running the backend of the app is either very busy or down a lot. I can click on the app and wait for several minutes for the app to update. I am sure that my internet connection is good because all my other apps work at the same time that this one is sitting there looking at me. Rheem needs to get their act together on this if they use it as a selling point.
