The Networking Mentor is a parable about the transformation of someone’s life because another person took them under their wing and mentored them relating to the do’s and don’ts of networking. It starts with a struggling business owner, Ken, who is invited to a BNI networking group by a business associate who proceeds to mentor Ken and help him learn how to network effectively and build a referral based business. Ken’s mentor teaches him very specific strategies on how to network better and at the same time, the mentor improves his skillset as well. Each and every one of us has people in our lives who made a difference. We all have someone in our story who influenced the path we took—or perhaps motivated us to carve our own path. These are the mentors we’ve had in our life. Their impact can be life changing. We firmly believe in the power of mentors to make a positive difference in the lives of others. By devoting time and attention to a mentoring relationship, both parties reap deeply powerful and meaningful rewards that extend well beyond simple financial gain. As we mature and gain more experience, we have the opportunity to transition from mostly being a mentee to also being a mentor. This book is for both mentors and mentees. We’ve all had mentors who are in “our story.” When we talk about how our life has changed through our experiences with them, they are part of that story. However, there is something even more important: The real question is not who’s in our story but whose story are we in? Whose life have we made a difference in? That’s what creates a meaningful life, and that’s why this book is for both mentees and mentors. (This book is the second edition of a book originally titled: “I Love Networking.” It has been expanded with additional chapters and graphics.)

Mentoring is Important
What a great book! We all know that we have mentors that are part of our journey…our story. What would we have done without them? But this book is also about everyone YOU have mentored as well and the impact you’ve made on them. I remember a few years ago, a business associate from another firm explained how I became part of her story. What shocked me what that I had not known what am impact I made on both her professional and business life until years later. She changed her life for the better and found a career which was a much better fit for her. I was humbled to think that I made such a difference in her life. This book reminds me to be a mentor to everyone…and live your life setting an example, helping everyone you meet along the way. If you are going to give feedback, be direct and constructive, but kind as well. The feeling I had when I finished the book was to rush out and thank all the mentors in my life! The book is about mentoring someone about the “do’s an don’ts” of networking but it painted a much bigger picture for me.

This book shares how Givers Gain through Mentoring
The book is an easy read and is in the format of a story. The story centers around a BNI member who begins helping someone he works with and the impact he has on that person through supporting him. It highlights how by giving of ourselves to others we build strong relationships that eventually also help us. Highly recommend this book, especially to anyone who is a member of BNI or has a love of building relationships and networking with others.

We can always learn more!
This book is an easy read with wonderful reminders about the importance of being open to new ideas and being willing to look at what we routinely do in our business with the possibility of learning to do them even more effectively. It is great to follow the story from both the mentor and the mentee perspective, with benefits to both. If you like to help others, or want to begin giving back to others, read this for inspiration.

Fun, informative, easy read
I enjoyed this quick little read. I try to limit my 5 star reviews, so 4 stars is very positive coming from me. I enjoyed that it was in the form of a story, partly because I tend to read more fiction than self-help or business books, but I like to make sure Iâm also improving myself through reading as well. I am a long time BNI member, and as part of that, I listen to Ivanâs podcasts, so I could hear his voice telling the story throughout the book and the concepts were very familiar. This book was inspiring for me to stay energized in my business as well as my BNI group. I did wonder how someone not at all familiar with BNI would feel about this book. It has a bit of a feel that itâs a commercial for BNI, which may turn off some (and is also where it lost a star for me) but the story really does ring true. My chapter is a really fantastic group (sounds ver much like Jimâs) and not only have I gotten plenty of ROI, but Iâve heard other members talk about how it has impacted their businesses so positively and that huge percentages of their business comes from BNI. So while the story may be fiction, it has played out many times just that way. Give it a read.

Small and Mighty!
Sometimes we need the detail, sometimes the summary. In the book they advise focusing on an element of your business with your networking partners, and in a sense thatâs what this book does for business networking. Iâm to the point in my business where networking has become my major activity and I have LOTS more to learn. âThe Networking Mentorâ fits in like a syllabus

Another triumph by Dr. Misner & Co.
Wonderful work, Gentlemen! Very useful as I mentor (and am mentored by) others in my networking organization. This is not the first… nor will it be the last… book I read from the Mind Of Misner! 🙂
