Join structural engineer Steve Burrows as he takes his team of laser-scanning experts to seventeenth-century St Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of London, England. Using the latest technology, the team explores this architectural masterpiece in a completely new light, unveiling the engineering challenges faced by its creators in the time of Charles II. Built by architectural genius Sir Christopher Wren, St. Paul’s Cathedral stands today as a majestic symbol of the British nation. To reveal Wren’s engineering secrets, the Time Scanners team will unveil an awe-inspiring 3D model of the cathedral, allowing us to better understand how Wren built such an ambitious structure against all the odds. Using laser scans, the team investigates how the cathedral survived a direct hit by a Nazi bomb during the London Blitz, and reveal how the famous architect overcame unstable foundations and immense structural forces to support the iconic dome.

Disappointing
This is not a serious documentary on St. Paul’s Cathedral. It takes a lot of the host going on and on about his great “team” with lots of quick flashy dramatic cuts about the great secrets about to be revealed before you get to the fact that the inside of the great dome is made of three different shells. This is the great revelation. Eventually they get to the damage done to the Cathedral during the Blitz but the information is superficial. That’s been done better in other documentaries. This Timeline is more about flashing lasers than St. Paul’s Cathedral. Very disappointing.

Very interesting story of the building of the cathedral
Saw the TV show and wanted my own copy. Recommend it for Freemasons (Wren was a Freemason). Explains the design and building of the cathedral, plus some very ineresting things about damage during WWII.

I’d like it better with more details (of all sorts) â¦
.â¦but thought that this was one very good program when it aired on PBS. Lots of details and information that the viewer probably just won’t get otherwise. Unless access has changed since I saw St. Paul’s over 20 years ago when watching this DVD you’ll get to see details you can’t get on the tour itself. This DVD is great!, just wish it was longer and blu ray. If you’re going to London you should go see St. Paul’s, watch this DVD first, so many details that you can see..â¦if you know to look for them.

Our First Time Scanners purchase
A little too archritectual and not enough general and historical information. It was ok, but not what we had expected!

Incredible technology allows us to see behind the walls, facades and optical illusions, and into the secret spaces of this amazing structure. Very interesting and makes me look at similar buildings with a greater understanding and even more appreciation.
