Works for what I need it for, screws that came holding down the cover on my moped were standard philips, a very common tool anyone can have. Given anyone can have a torx set but it’s less likely. Works for what I need it for.

If your license plates can be stolen with just a Phillips head screwdriver, they are an easy target.These screws have a star-shaped slot, which is itself a deterrent, but they go one step further. There’s also a bump in the middle to thwart an ordinary Allen wrench. The included Allen wrench and screw bit have indentations in the middle to get around the bump.Finally, there’s a plastic washer that lets you snap a plastic cap over the screw. All in all, unless the would-be thief comes well prepared and has plenty of time, these screws are just the thing to make him think, “Eh, too much trouble! I’ll skip this one!”Now, the bad news. Since there’s no standard way in the automotive world for attaching license plates, the kit needs to try to cover a variety of situations. The back plate of my Hyundai Kona accommodates the anti-theft screws perfectly, but the screw holes for the front plate are too small for any of the provided screws. I was, however, able to attach the washers that the screw caps snap in to, so the front plate at least has screw caps.Some written directions would be nice. What you see in the photo is what you get, and then I had to return to the web page to see what to do with this stuff. In my case, most of it was extraneous but that’s not a problem. They have no way to know what any one person needs so they throw in a lot of stuff. Too bad the collection still didn’t fit my front plate screw holes, which is why I dinged them one star.All in all, though, I’m happy with this anti-theft kit.

My license plate is dark blue, so I went with the black coloured screws for a stealthier look. If someone were inclined to steal my plate, they would first have to pop off the plastic screw caps, only to find that their phillips or flat head screwdriver isn’t going to work. Torx isn’t going to cut it either. Nope, what makes these screws anti-theft, is the need to use a special Torx bit with a hole in the center. Which brings up a very important point….DON’T LOSE THE SUPPLIED BIT AND WRENCH!! Sure, you could get a set of security bits from Amazon or Harbor Freight, but it’s probably just easier to stash the bit in your toolbox, and the wrench somewhere in your car. So are these screws going to keep your plates from getting stolen? A determined thief (who perhaps has read this review, and has a set of security bits) will get the goods no matter what precautions you take. But there’s no need to make things easy for them. According to a statistic that I just made up, 99% of bad guys will give up and move to the next car after seeing the plastic screw covers.

Defect in the head of the screw preventing use.
Little bit of a quality control issue. One of the screws had a casting/machining defect on the head of the screw. The imperfection was bad enough that the screw is un-usable.

After attempting to buy security screws at some major auto shops only to be told that the tool to install/remove screws wasnt available for sale & would have to return to the shop if needed i decided to give these a go.I have seen these screw heads before so definitely no infallable but will deter idiots.Great value, no instructions but online at amazon if required.
