    Reasonable Value
I ordered the laptop from Amazon for $600 after few weeks of research and hunting for a bargain. The laptop arrived after almost two weeks in a plain carton. I was very disappointed to find out that the blu ray doesn’t work. Called ASUS customer service for help but quickly discovered that their level of expertise and sense of customer service leave a lot to be desired. They asked to ship the laptop to ASUS repair center in California. The laptop was shipped back two days later with two terse notations; “Issue was duplicated” and “Repaired.” I was eager to know if the same blu ray was fixed or replaced. Was it replaced with the same or different model? No one from ASUS staff that I spoke with could give me a clear answer. I was also concerned that the laptop was shipped back with a DVD carefully wrapped in plain paper with a hand written note on the DVD “”Vista 64 bit Disk 1.” No one knew what this DVD is about since my operating system is Windows 7! The laptop also comes with one year “Global” warranty that no one seems to know how it works! (I am sending the laptop to a friend who lives overseas). In general, the laptop doesn’t feel as rich or as well built as other brands, especially the keyboard. In short, the laptop is a good value on paper but you have to accept the inferior technical and casual attitude of ASUS technical staff and probably a bit lower appearance quality.I have the option to return the laptop to Amazon but I decided to keep it since it is still, after all, a better value than most.

    Massive. Great for watching movies
I’m writing the review from this laptop. First things first: this thing is HUGE! Before you buy this laptop, go get a measuring tape and measure the dimensions listed on the spec page. On the plus side, watching a movie on this thing is a pleasure. Really nice and big screen. Performance is pretty good, on par with other computers with similar specs. Here is what Windows 7 reports:* Processor: 6.9* Memory: 5.9* (dekstop) graphics: 4.7* Gaming graphics: 6.2* Hard disk: 5.9Except for desktop graphics (not sure why it is low) it is pretty good, especially for the price. I did uninstall most of the junkware that it came with.Pros- The screen is pretty nice (for this class; no IPS). Not as bright as my Thinkpad T410, but close. Lots of space for windows and multi-tasking. Like I said watching movies is a pleasure.- Bluray is very nice. Dark Knight worked flawlessly. Goes well with the widescreen.- Touchpad works pretty OK. I say OK since I always have issues with touchpads, especially with scrolling etc gestures and this one is better than average. I actually use the scrolling gesture (and even other gestures).- 1 year accidental warranty + international supportCons- Dimensions — this thing is massive, again check the specs before you buy.- No Bluetooth — I actually didn’t realize this when buying.- Speakers are nothing to write home about. Weaker than my other laptops. This is ironic given the size of thing. It works fine, but you can’t really crank it up much.- Keyboard is so-so. There is so much space on this thing and yet there are no dedicated media controls (all with Fn+). Keys feel slightly more mushy compared to HP Touchpad TM2 (also chicklet).- I went ahead and registered on ASUS, but their warranty page sucks. It either: (1) doesn’t tell you what the warranty details are, (2) takes you to a broken page, and (3) takes you to a useless page or a page in another language. At least I couldn’t figure it out, maybe you’ll have better luck. I also tried to get an extended warranty, I guess you can’t really do that through ASUS and need a 3rd party?Other things: webcam is OK, average I’d say; microphone works — Skype and MSN messenger worked fine. The build quality is so-so, OK for this price range, but you definetely feel the body flexing, especially since it is so massive. One more thing: It did have a dead pixel, turned into a dead line across the screen and now it went away. I’m not writing this as a con, since it is covered under the warranty, but I guess it is a minus for build quality. Both the HDMI out (with sound) and VGA out worked well. I can also confirm that I was able to write to double-layered DVD+Rs (DL).

This laptop does not get hot when running
I am very impressed with two things about this laptop, the battery life and the ‘ice cool’ technology. I had the laptop running on a flat desk surface for more than 6 hours and when I picked it up it wasn’t even close to being warm on the bottom and it doesn’t have a noisy fan that keeps it cool. The second thing I really like is the battery life I had forgotten to plug it in and was online playing a game for more than an hour and a half before I got a pop up about the battery being about 2/3’s drained. Nothing slowed down. I have had a laptop of one manufacture or another since 1998 and this one is very good and exceptionally good for the price.

    Great Buy!
The Asus A73E was a wonderful purchase for our family. I spent many hours online researching 17.3 inch laptops. For the price, performance, size, and features of the Asus A73E it is by far the best value in the market.Pros:- Shipping and arrival time were very quick which is always nice for anything you purchase online. Thank you Amazon!- Set up was very easy and quick as well compared to the set-up time for other laptops we previously purchased (Compaq, HP, Toshiba, etc.).- Screen size, weight, and performance of the Asus A73E is superior compared to our other HP Pavilion 17.3 inch Entertainment laptop.- The keyboard is very comfortable to type with compared to other Toshiba Satellite previously owned.- The processing speed is really good for internet browsing. Great for multi-tasking between windows and multiple microsoft programs.- Much lighter in weight than other top of the line Asus models and does not run hot or loud after multiple hours of use like our HP Pavilion.- Great battery life for a laptop- Watched several BlueRay movies with no issue. Graphics were awesome!- I have had many complements on the look of the Asus A73E from the stylish cover to the aluminum keyboard inside. No cons so far.Hope our family review helps other consumers in the market for a laptop.

    Good laptop, OK screen
Asus makes good laptops without the added price of a fashionable brand. This laptop is good for the value. I’m surprised it comes with a blu-ray player. Only comment is that my eyes seem to strain when I stare at the screen. Not sure if it’s because of the resolution or the refresh rate but it doesn’t seem very clear.
