Great sound for the size/price, a premium bluetooth audio playback rig
I researched this type of product well before making my purchase, lots of good other reviewers for products from the same company, both more and less expensive. This is a happy medium product for me, and I am very happy with the product and its capabilities. I am a location audio recording person and audiophile, and while this product at this price point is clearly not a world beater, that is not the object of this type of product. What I can say is that this product sounds decent with live streamed audio (SiriusXM usually), and is not annoying to someone used to listening to accurate acoustic audio / recordings. The switching amp actually sounds pretty decent, and this rig is well worth the price. It is easy to move from room to room when needed, and comes with nice sleeves for the speakers so that when taking in ‘on the road’ the rig is reasonably well protected…..a nice touch I am not sure others have mentioned. The bluetooth range is decent, and the only thing I would say is that it does not automatically reconnect after shutting it down one evening and starting it up the next morning with my Tab 7+. I have decent sound when using the bluetooth, and therefore the built in DAC, that I have not tried to compare using the line in function. If I wanted premium sound I would use a different rig, but this is great for work out music, and or background music when doing something else. If a bluetooth rig would have been my only audio playback rig I would have opted for the larger brother of this unit, for the clarity of the bass if nothing else. Yet this unit does well by itself for non-critical listening, and I would gladly purchase it again. Happy customer, pleasantly surprised.

Quality speakers, ideal for desktop setups
I’m in a relatively smaller room (approx 12’ x 16’) and have a corner setup for a mix of both work and play. I wanted to declutter some wires from my setup while pursuing a solid quality sound/bass on the desktop end of things. Hours of research led me to audio engine and more specifically their hd4’s. At first I was pretty hesitant about paying a couple of hundreds dollars on quality desktop speakers but after receiving these speakers I quickly began to understand the price tag. The sound quality on these guys are amazing from just about any angle in my room. They are both minimal in design and setup, which I am a big fan of and the wooden finish quickly grew on me. I only have one usb wire running from one of the speakers to my computer, the power cable, and the connection from active to the passive speaker — which is a great improvement. On top of that, the low latency Bluetooth works like a charm; ideal for when I am not actively on my computer (or on my work laptop) an am looking to play off a device such as my phone. The only minor downside (and this is more out of pickiness) is the omission of desktop speaker stands which can help angle your speakers slightly upwards for enchanted listening pleasure. It’s not a deal breaker since you can get them from audio engine on the side ($34 bucks last time I checked) but I feel that at least some alternative to these stands should’ve been included given the initial price. Overall, very happy with this purchase and look forward to these lastime me quite a while.

Great desk speakers (but need time)
Run these for a few hours before freaking out – they need time to chill out 😉 They are far better after a dozen hours to my ears.If your after big sound rock concerts – these are not the droids… sorry.. speakers you’re looking for. Acoustic, Jazz, Mellow, Classical are best IMO. They don’t lack normal bass but just don’t have that big thump. Great mix of features and blue tooth is really solid. I also love that you can have wired and blue-tooth connected and BT takes priority – I use it to connect two computers and play music on one while I work then swap for conference calls.I don’t have them in an ideal location (mine are too low as under monitors angled up) but they still do great. Shame this does not have a sub out like it’s smaller brother – feels like a downgrade to me even though I’m not running a sub.Only down side I have the is cost – they really are steep…. but in the end that fades over time.

    Nice Speaker
The AudioEngine A2+ are really amazing speakers, but I just miss that bass a little, so tried the HD4. In my opinion, this HD4 speaker added bass, but at the expense of the highs and mids. Not that HD4 is extremely bass booming. It kind of muddied everything. I am going to stick with the A2+ and just add a small subwoofer. The HD4 is a great 4-inch woofer speaker, but not $180 nicer than the AudioEngine A2+.

    Audioengine should try again.
I liked that they are mid-forward and sounded pretty clear (can always take away mids; can’t always add!), but they neglected to put a high pass filter on it, meaning that no matter what signal is set, the little 4″ woofer will try to reproduce the sound even to a fault; frequencies that it has no business attempting; which just wastes power, adds distortion, and makes the port start chuffing/whistling. When plugging in a sub, this doesn’t change either; which makes sense since the sub comes afterwards with this design and there’s nothing to ‘detect’ the sub; that said, the sub S6 was well under expectations as well.In the end, sent them back.

    Worth the price
Definitely worth the price. The walnut wood finish looks impeccable with a strong magnetic cover for each speaker. Set up is quite simple with multiple audio connectors for your specific device. The Bluetooth worked flawlessly and instantaneously. I tried multiple different genres from folk, Chinese, Irish, classic rock, and rap/trap music. The bass is evident through the speakers with clear sounds and small notes/intonations I never noticed prior to just using other speakers. Best purchase I’ve made in awhile.

    Like em!
Seamlessly moves from bluetooth turntable to Apple Music, which is what i wanted most. Great sound! (Although can’t fine-tune treble, bass). Good for our living room music listening.

    Perfect for Our New Turntable
We bought these speakers to go along with our new turntable! Easy to set up and the sound quality is great. I am far from an audiophile but would highly recommend….they are pricey though!

I have had these now for 4 months. They are connected via USB to my Windows desktop PC. They sound absolutely fine. They have an undistorted sound with good balance between bass, mid and treble. They go plenty loud enough for me in my small room. Two minor niggles…1) The “power/volume” knob on the front panel is a volume knob only. The power switch is on the back.2) Occasionally (for me about once a month) they won’t play and you have to make a tweak to the Windows’ sound settings to get them operating again.Overall, I recommend them so far.***** Update July 2023 *****I may be speaking too soon but now I have connected the speakers to my PC using an audio cable instead of USB, niggle number 2 has gone away.***** Update September 2024 *****Niggle 2 has definitely gone. I listen every day and still like these speakers.

Głośniki grają i wyglądają świetnie, ale ciągle piszczą, nawet gdy nie jest podłączone źródło. To wysoki i bardzo nieprzyjemny dźwięk, który je praktycznie dyskwalifikuje.

10/10 recommend these speakers, got them on 20% sale, would 100% do again.Their bass is awesome for their size. While still outputting voices amazingly.Treat yoself and just do it*edit*After listening to them more, listening at 80-100% volume they overheat after about 30 minutes which is lame especially for the price point. Will be trying some methods to figure out how to cool because they do sound very good. Updated review to 2 stars*edit edit*Fixed the overheating, inside the speaker at the back of its amplifier it is packed with fluff/insulation material that sits right on and around the heatsink, after opening it up and moving/packing the insulation off the heatsink there has been no problems. Really enjoying these speakers, shame i had to pull it open to fix.
