Temp control done right
I use nest for all of my thermo stats and the added functionality of this new version has been great. I use the nest app and google home app and the temperature control from anywhere makes it so easy

This one is different from the Gen 1’s but still good.
Different from the first gen Nest thermostats.. this one relies on tapping and swiping where the old gen 1’s actually had a face on them that you could turn. Old man problems I guess. I wish it did less as its job is to turn on heat/air when required. the setup goes on for days setting up all sorts of stuff that I don’t want or need. To its credit it does its job and once I was able to dumb down the required inputs we made peace.

Home app to control is difficult to use
I choose this thermostat thinking it would be compatable with my other apple products. It works well and was very easy to install. I was also able to get a rebate from my utility company for the purchase. Since we travel a good deal, I wanted something I could control remotely. It does a great job of that, plus I can also monitor my energy useage to see how much the aircon or heat has been running. My biggest complaint is that the app to adjust it it is very difficult to use. I can’t seem to switch between custom setting I made for various situations, such as Travel, summer (where I have the aircon set to 78). I’m having to manually adjust the tempature setting daily, and the set and hold feature only goes up to one day. My son also has one, but he uses the nest app to control it. Mine is newer and it only works with the apple home app. In fairness I have not combined it with Siri to try vocal commands, which it’s capable of

Nest better before Google
Poor ergonomic functionality and terrible baseplate design. The original Nest thermostat this replaced is much more user friendly. Iâm not impressed with the revisions made since Nest was purchased by Google. Whatâs more, it wonât work in my Nest app. I can only use the Google Home app. That defeats the purpose I bought it for.

Not smart as it should be
Not good as described, not smart as it should be, I used to have smart one come with builder, it works well. After I changed to google one, my upstairs bedroom is cold as hell, the smart function is not working well, so I have to change back, my upstairs room back to room in winter, I live in Minnesota by the way, so winter is long and we need warm in the house,

Works With Heat Pump
Some reviews noted that it doesn’t work with a heat pump, but in my experience it works as expected. Only issue I had was with the B wire being detected consistently, and occasionally after reboot it doesn’t detect it and needs to be restarted.

This Nest didn’t work on my system.
I have an older HVAC system–both gas heat and electric AC. I wasn’t able to connect it with this Nest, so I had to return it.

You can never override eco so your house is insanely hot
You can never override the eco setting on this device. It will think youâre away when youâre home, and change the temperature constantly to 74 which is not great in the middle of the summer. We are beyond frustrated with this device and do not understand why anyone would want this thermostat. We missed our return window so will be calling nest directly because itâs actually the thermostat from hell.

This a 24V product made for installation in a US heating/cooling system. Doesn’t work in Australia without additional relay and 24V power supply.
