A good purchase
With increasing electricity prices, I wanted something giving a bit more control over my AC/Heat Pump, and in particular the secondary heating system (resistive electrical). The old Honeywell thermostat was a little too free with the auxiliary heat, and costing a fortune. This behaves much more reasonably, and in addition with the addition of an external thermometer can be configured to totally avoid aux heat above a set temperature – I used 40°F, because the heat pump is much more efficient once up to that temperature and doesn’t need the help. The siting of the thermostat is also not wonderful (hallway), when the area we are interested in mainly is the family room. Adding a secondary temperature sensor in the family room and configuring to use that helps a lot.Electricity is still expensive, but we are now using less.

Hope it lasts longer than the one it’s replacing.
Bought this to replace a similar model (the old one included humidity control, this does not). Touchscreen failed on the old one in less than 5 years. It’s a very versatile thermostat. I was happy to find a replacement at a reasonable price. This model thermostat is part of the Honeywell “pro” line, which means they don’t want to sell to home owners. They want you to buy it from a “pro” and have them install it.It’s been a month or so and so far it works fine.

Did I get 2 lemons? Replacement works perfect
Brand new thermostats, will pair fine with the THM5421R1021 EMI board but then it will loose its settings and unpair from the EMI board. Have to be reconfigured all over again. Not sure if I got lemons. I am getting two new thermostats replacement and hope they will work.UPDATE:I upgraded this review to a 5 stars. I got two replacement the next day and they worked perfect after connecting with the THM5421R1021 EMI board and programing them. Power cycled the board and the thermostats battery unplugged and it does retain the settings and the redlink connectivity. So it looks like I had a bad batch in the first shipment which is very strange, not one but both of them.

Fantastic! Money Saver
Awesome! This is THE thermostat to buy. I researched many different brands and few come close to the configurability of this unit. We have a heat pump and electric backup heat. Our old Honeywell 8511 thermostat always insisted on kicking in the backup heat. With this thermostat I was able to set delay before the backup heat kicks in, a delta before the backup heat kicks in, a not above outdoor temperature [requires equally brilliant Honeywell C7089R1013 Wireless Outdoor Sensor] and a fan continue after finished with heat to extract the last therm. Previously we only set back 2°F at night which meant the heat came on several times at night. Now we use a 6°F setback. Even on the coldest days, we lose only 4°F overnight, so the heat does not come on. Only on the very coldest days is the backup heat required to bring the house back to setpoint. Once at setpoint, the backup heat NEVER comes on. Our utility has a MyMeter feature where I can monitor electric usage. The day after I installed it, the usage was much less spiky and dropped about 10%. Over the next month, the usage dropped 20%. Average temperatures were relatively constant in the dead of winter.Adaptive mode not recommended where there are large night to night temperature variations.Download and understand the Professional Installer setup before enabling Advanced features. SCARY SITUATION!!!
SCARY SITUATION!!! This thermostat is not compatible with all systems (like my heat pump and electric furnace combo). The interaction between these components created a runaway feedback loop because it never told the heat pump to stop running; the house was set to 68 but had risen to 97 when we returned after a day away. This is the kind of safety issue that could kill a pet while youâre at work. I know it is something about the thermostat itself and not a unique failure/glitch because I have owned 2 of these thermostats, and both units caused the exact same problem.

This is our second thermostat. My husband is a retired HVAC technician and is the one who researched. He would highly suggest this brand and model. Easy to program.

I have ordered approximately 16-18 of these thermostats now. Product arrived as advertised, all serial numbers inside thermostats were dated new.
