A Game Changer!
I recently purchased the Insta360 X4, and it has completely revolutionized my approach to capturing action videos. As a avid BMX rider, I’ve tested numerous cameras over the years, but the X4 stands out as a true game changer.Outstanding image quality! The X4’s shoots in 8K30fps, 5K60fps and for that cinematic look, 4K100fps. Plus 72MP 360 photos. The resolution provides sharp and vibrant images and the details are incredible!Stabilization! The FlowState stabilization keeps the footage smooth and professional looking, regardless whoâs using the camera. Completely eliminating the need for a gimbal.The X4 doubles as a traditional wide angle camera with the Single Lens Mode, which can also shoot up to 4K60fps.Durability! One of my favorite upgrades is the lens guards. The standard lens guard that comes with the camera is easy to apply and remove. No more having to worry about scratching the lens with certain shots that may put your camera in harms way. The X4 Is A Good Successor To The X3!
Some of the stuff I like about the X4 over the X3:- Image quality is crisp and cleaner â especially, when zooming in from the recorded file (NOTE: See Video: The video clip is zoomed in from the X4âs recorded file â the image quality is so much better than the X3 when under this circumstance);- Battery life is better â although, I purchased an extra battery, I have yet to use it in the same day â the X4âs battery has more than enough power for me in a day;- The screw-in lenses are a good solution to protecting the camera lenses; and, surprisingly, they donât create much distortion from most angles; and,- The X4 does a better job than the X3 of not showing stitching, warping, or image distortion when the X4 is positioned parallel to the ground and sky â especially, near, or at, the circumference edges of the camera lenses with the protective lens covers off. (NOTE: See my pic riding my electric bicycle: the image does not show any stitching nor warping when I place the X4 parallel to the ground; hence, itâs difficult for the viewer to know the location of the X4.)The stuff I donât like about the x4:- No Remote connection from the Apple Watch (Ultra) â I contacted Insta360 support; and, they told me they donât have any plans, at this time, to update the firmware to connect to the Apple Watches;- No GPS DIRECTION data in the Insta360 OS Application; BUT, GPS DIRECTION shows up as an option in the STATSâs menu when using the Insta360âs DESKTOPâs software. Insta360âs technical support is looking into this situation, as of 7-May-2024.- As of 1-May-2024, the GPS Remote, the model without preview, doesnât connect to my X4; I tried the firmware upgrade, and the GPS remote will not connect to my X4. I returned this remote.- As of 1-May-2024, the GPS Preview Remote works with the X4 after the GPS Preview Remoteâs Firmware Update, via the Insta360âs Application, under the System Settings.(Even when using the GPS Preview Remote, No DIRECTION option shows up in the STATSâs menu option of the Insta360 OS Apple iPhone Application; BUT, DIRECTION shows up as an option in the STATSâs menu option in the Insta360âs DESKTOP software when using the GPS Preview Remote; I contacted Insta360âs customer support; and, they are working on the Insta360 OS app for the iPhone to address the DIRECTION option.)- The X3 Battery does not work with the X4 â the X4 battery is bigger in size.- Bluetooth Wake-up doesnât always work with the GPS Preview Remote â I donât know if the problem is the X4 or the GPS Preview Remote.Notwithstanding the things I donât like about the X4, aforementioned supra, they do not outweigh the features and benefits of the X4 â itâs a wonderful camera for my specific uses: flying, SCUBA, tennis, hiking, equestrian activities, and biking, and it is significantly a better camera than the X3, by way of recording motions and stills.I returned my X3 â it was still in the Amazon return period; hence, I only use the X4 at this time.Iâm very happy with my X4./s/ Alfonso Faustino

Works well, just have extra batteries on hand
Other than an incredibly short battery life, which makes me run it in nothing higher than 4K at 30 FPS, I think itâs a great unit. The video it takes is quite good, and as long as you use an external microphone (smartly located), youâll be fine. And even though I donât have it, I do recommend a remote for it. Whether handlebar mount, pole mount, whatever.

Good stuff to know for beginners
Amazing video footage. It takes some playing with to learn how to edit the video’s. I use snapchat to add my music into the video’s, and then I save them. You can also use other sources. But once you learn a few tricks, it’s awesome. Definitely buy the biggest memory card you can find. I got the 512 GB, and I filled it up quickly in a couple of hours. PS: Start off just taking short videos like about 1 minute and 30 seconds. It makes it easy to learn how to edit the footage. Have fun !

Great camera for construction walks/drone videos!
The camera and software is really amazing if youâve never played with 360° before..We use it for progress/billing walks, QA/QC, safety observations, etc..The software subscription for open space is quite good. Load all your drawings/plans into the system, show up, tell it where you are (floor, etc) and go. You can overlay different dates to mark progress, changes, etc. itâs something elseâ¦The pricing structure is goofy =For capturing with a drone, or just personal video itâs amazing. With a viewer you can move around in the video, whatever.Batteries last 2+ hours of continuous shooting or practically ALL DAY of intermittent use.The X4 version is the one I wound up getting and Iâm very happy with the purchase..

As a user of the Insta360x2, then the X3 I was keen to get my hands on the Insta360 x4. I love my 360 cameras which allow me to be highly creative with my videos and sometimes stupid videos.The New X4 did not disappoint, itâs a great camera and although itâs a bit bigger, itâs a little harder to run around with it in your mouth for NoseMode but not enough to stop me from doing so.The new bayonet-style lens protectors that twist and clip into place come with the camera or you can buy better-tempered glass versions to help protect your lenses if you drop the camera, so much better than those horrible sticky lens guards. To be honest, though I donât like to put anything in front of my lenses as it will lessen the lens quality, risky I know!8K Video, Wow, this takes up more memory and power so that is one of the reasons for the size increase, it has a bigger battery, so it lasts longer and you will need larger capacity SD cards because of file size. There is also a 5.7K mode which you can use, and it will use less memory. Just as a heads-up I hear about hot cameras and overheating, yes they do get warm, but I have never had an issue and was shooting lots of video in temperatures of 39 degrees without any issues.The bigger size also means that it now sports a bigger 2.5-inch screen which is great for playback. Shooting at 8K resolution also means that I can crop in on the video (Zoom in) and still be at 4K which is a bonus.As a creator, the beauty of the Insta360 X4 is I can not only shoot weird and wonderful things, but I can shoot everything around me and then reframe on my desktop or app to show the view I want, you donât miss anything!I love the new camera, well worth having one in your camera bag.

Only used it once so far. About a 1 hour ride. Had 2/3-3/4 battery left. Love how easy it is to use. Have a bit of tinkering to do the video edits. But Iâm sure it will be easy enough. Love that you can take it off one bike and put it on another in seconds instead of the hard wired ones. I think it is worth the money. Came with everything I needed.
