Excellent Product
I will start out by saying that I have used virtually every version of PaperPort since it was originally released under the Visioneer name in the mid 90’s and came bundled with Hewlett Packard scanners.This release has a number of enhancements, including some really nice cleanup tools such as black border removal from scans. The “stacking” capabilities have also been greatly enhanced, so you may now scan a combination of post-script (i.e. document pages rendered from a PDF print driver) and scanned documents into flippable book-like “stacks”.The big feature they’re touting with this release is cloud capabilities. Nuance includes a free 1GB storage area on their cloud service and that cloud drive can be mapped as a drive letter within the “folder manager” of PaperPort, so it can coexist with folders on your local drives. Then, files can be dragged and dropped to the cloud for public access. Their cloud software has apps available for Android and iOS devices, so you can access any uploaded files easily from virtually any device.I bought my copy of PaperPort Professional through Amazon for $100, whereas it is typically not discounted and sells for $190 to 200. It is still a great value at full price but it is an exceptional value at $100, if you can still find it at that dollar amount!One other thing that may be a selling point for previous PaperPort users: I upgraded from PaperPort 11 because it had some issues with freezing. It is said that this is a result of mapped drives and a speed lag on a computer system. If you use any USB or NAS drives in your system, PaperPort 14 (Standard or Professional) is considerably more stable and will most likely eliminate any freezes you experience.Go for it! You won’t be disappointed!

Very Disappointing, Crashes, Buggy, and Slow.
For many years I used Paperport 9 Deluxe and despite occasional problems such as losing the scanner or some kind of loop that kept it continuously busy or slowed it down, I was able to make it work and used it successfully. It was acceptable because it did a lot of different things, despite the occasional reboot or busy loop.When I upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1, I had to find something else and I upgraded to Paperport Professional 14.0. This program is simply unacceptable for something that has been on the market for so long. It is buggy, inefficient, poorly designed, and crashes. The icons are tiny and you just have to guess what you need.Three times within the last six months that I have had it on my computer, I had something happen that the program would start, then immediately crash. It simply would not remain open. Twice I was able to restore it by going back to a restore point prior to the trouble. One time this did not work and I had to completely remove the program from the computer, clean the registry with CCleaner, then do a complete reinstall. When I did this, I lost all my shortcuts. The program did resume working, but the delays returned immediately.While PP9 would allow you to quickly stack multiple items, PP14 stacks, then you watch the blue circle as the program is doing something. If you bring up task manager, you will see that PP14 has stopped responding and might be using less than 3% of the CPU resources, but it may take 10 – 25 seconds or longer to complete even a simple stack.What is unacceptable is that despite all these criticism on Amazon reviews, it does not appear that Nuance has done anything to address the many complaints that have turned up. This was a very useful program for both storing documents in different directories, assembling pages and stacking, and editing or erasing parts of documents, but it must be an orphan because I can’t tell that Nuance does anything except take money from people. This is a product that is simply not fit for the purpose for which it was intended. Even a minimum amount of maintenance to correct some glaring problems would be welcome. There is no excuse for a simple stack of three documents to take 15 seconds or more to complete. I am using a quad-core 3.5 Ghz Xeon with 16 Gb RAM, an SSD C: drive, and two 4 Tb WD Black drives in RAID-1. I bought a copy of File Center and am planning to install and test it.

Every time I go to use this scanning software, I double click on the icon and it brings me to an activation page and and tells me I need to activate this product. I’ve done this several times and for some reason it does not want to activate. Now the software does not even work. Never had a chance to even use it.!! Call the support line and you get transferred and put on hold. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY

Have never been able to use this since we purchased it. Repeatedly get the following error message:Problem with Desktop View, a dump file has been created, given a link to follow to resolve the problem. Does not work, the link is as follows:C:UsersOwnerAppDataLocalTemp\2015_04_26_13_00_19_0273_PPDrsktopView_00000740.dmpUnless we get this resolved quickly, the only option left is to return the product and get a refund.
